The Human Services Psychology graduate program’s primary commitment is to train psychologists for research and service in the public sector, placing special emphasis on the problems of inner-city, minority and poor populations, children, youth and the aged.

The graduate programs at the Erickson School of Aging Studies provide integrated, interdisciplinary professional training for leaders in the growing longevity economy. Graduates will meet a growing workforce need for leaders with professional education to serve in management positions in public, private, and non-profit/advocacy organizations providing services to older adults.

The Erickson School of Aging Studies’ goal is to prepare graduates to apply this integrated perspective in leadership positions in a broad array of aging services organizations from government agencies/organizations and advocacy/non-profit groups to a variety of positions in the for-profit business arena.

The MPS program prepares working professionals in both small and large organizations who have an interest in incorporating entrepreneurial thinking and innovative practices into their workplace or community. The program will also be of great value to those with an interest in starting their own company or driving social change through innovation. Core courses will provide students with an understanding of the fundamental building blocks for driving innovation.

Beyond the core courses, three pathways will allow students to specialize in one of three areas: social entrepreneur, technical entrepreneur and intra entrepreneur.

The graduate programs in biological sciences are designed to offer a broad, multi-disciplinary, modern education in the life sciences coupled with the development of in-depth expertise and research training within a specialized area.

Instructional Systems Development (ISD) is one of UMBC’s most established graduate programs. Our online certificate and Master’s programs provide an innovative and engaging curriculum. We offer all courses in an online format to accommodate the schedules of busy working professionals. The graduate program in Computer Science provides advanced instruction and training and research opportunities to prepare students for careers in business, industry, academia and government agencies. The program reflects state-of-the-art knowledge in major theoretical and applied aspects of computation.

The Health Information Technology M.P.S. degree combines courses in Health Information Technology strategy, policy, and management with more technical, hands-on Health Information Technology courses that allow students to develop a formal educational program that best meets their individual career development needs.

The graduate program in Applied Sociology prepares students for careers in program development and evaluation, policy analysis, and research in the fields of health, aging, and diversity and gender.

   The Department of Geography and Environmental Systems is at the interface between natural science, social science, public policy, engineering and information technology, with faculty who have background and collaborative relationships in both research and teaching related to all of these areas. The Department offers graduate programs leading to the M.S. degree and Ph.D. degree. Both non-thesis and thesis M.S. options are available. The program has three foci, reflecting the expertise and research interests of our faculty. All three have a common set of core courses; the remainder of each students’ academic program will be selected in consultation with faculty mentors. (1) Environmental Systems, including water resources and earth-surface processes, ecosystem science, and atmospheric processes; (2) Human Geography, with an emphasis on coupled human-natural systems including the impacts of human activities on the environment, the socioeconomic consequences of environmental degradation, and environmental policy; (3) Geographic Information Science and Remote Sensing, focusing on training students in the application of geospatial analysis to improve understanding of changing spatial patterns in the natural and human environment. 

The interdisciplinary Public Policy program, which offers both a master’s and doctoral degree, is designed for highly motivated individuals who wish to pursue advanced graduate studies in public policy and public policy analysis. The student body includes both full-time and part-time students. Most of the courses are offered in the evening to permit students who work to pursue their degrees.
