The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures offers courses in Arabic, German, Japanese, the Romance Language group (French, Spanish), and the Slavic group (Czech, Russian). Whenever possible, the courses are conducted in the language that is studied. The aim of instruction is reading, writing, aural and oral proficiency, and an understanding of the life, literature, and culture of the country. Lectures and films in the language studied are offered during the school year for the benefit of the students in the department. Language laboratories supplement class work.

The goal of any financial system is to allocate monetary resources to those individuals, companies, and governmental units that have the best ideas for usage. The study of finance focuses on the organization and development of capital markets and financial institutions in achieving the optimal usage of funds. As a finance student, you might want to examine how conflict of interest affects managerial performance, how risk influences investment decisions, or how investor psychology can impact the price of stocks and bonds. The finance faculty offer strong support for the exploration of such topics and the curriculum is designed to prepare students in areas of high employment demand.

The finance major offers coursework in the following areas of specialization:

• Banking and Risk Management
• Investments
• General Finance

Finance students must declare one of these specializations as a formal option within their major. Multiple options cannot be chosen. Students are encouraged to meet with their Business Advising and Student Engagement (BASE) advisors on a regular basis. The department chair is also available to answer questions regarding the selection of courses or other questions related to the finance curriculum.

What you will learn
Students will learn to apply the principles and techniques of time value of money, quantify and interpret risk/reward relationships using a variety of metrics, estimate the fundamental value of traded and non-traded assets, identify resources of risk and implement appropriate risk management techniques and analyze market conditions for strategic planning.

Latino and Latin American studies includes a major and minor in Latin American studies and a minor in U.S. Latina/Latino studies.

The major and minor in Latin American studies are designed to provide a sound basis for undergraduate students who intend to seek employment with governmental agencies and private enterprises with operations in Latin America, as well as those who decide to undertake graduate study in some academic discipline with emphasis in this area. The U.S. Latina/Latino studies minor focuses on people of Latin American origin or descent living in the U.S.

Many students who major in Latin American studies carry a double major with Spanish, history, political science, economics, global studies, or international business or have chosen to minor in one of those fields.

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln and the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) are cooperating with the Latin American studies major. UNO students may complete their course requirements by attending classes at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Nebraska students may take courses offered at UNO to meet some requirements for a major in Latin American studies. Please note that University residency requirements still apply. Students should check with their advisor for information on UNO equivalent courses or other courses that may apply to the Latin American studies major.

This degree program prepares students for careers in communications, advocacy, and public service roles in the agricultural, natural resources, and environmental disciplines. Degree requirements provide students a broad education combining skills and knowledge in agricultural, environmental, and natural resources sciences; the social sciences; and mass communications. Graduates of this program are also qualified to pursue careers in public relations and public service in government agencies, nonprofit, and private organizations.

The music major is available in two degree programs. Both include the opportunity to take applied lessons with highly acclaimed faculty artists and scholars, as well as a compulsory foundation in music theory and history, keyboard skills, and ensemble participation.

Students choosing the bachelor of arts degree can expect a substantial amount of musical study encompassing about three years. This degree consists of six successive semesters of applied lessons culminating with a junior recital in the sixth semester. Alternatively, those who wish to pursue research in music may present a research project or document in lieu of the junior recital and last semester of applied lessons. The BA degree requires that a minor area of study be included in the program of studies.

Students desiring a course of study in music that will prepare them for graduate study and eventually a professional career in performance, music theory, music history, composition, or piano pedagogy should pursue a bachelor of music degree. The BM degree is recommended for students who have the desire and capacity to reach high standards of achievement in performance study. Students with composition background may pursue the composition option, while music scholars wishing to increase their understanding of the history and/or theory of music can pursue the music history or music theory options. The performance options include eight successive semesters of applied lessons and culminate with a senior recital.

University of Nebraska–Lincoln students pursuing the bachelor of science degree in Grassland Systems will benefit from an interdisciplinary, holistic approach to the study of grasslands, rangelands, and prairies.  Approximately 60% of Nebraska’s landmass is grassland which offers exceptional experiential learning opportunities.  Students first develop a strong base with core courses in grassland systems, mathematics and statistics, communications, and natural sciences before advanced study in one of two options: grassland ecology and management (GECM) or grazing livestock systems (GLS).

This program offers comprehensive actor training through a core of six different acting courses, which move from basic process work to detailed exploration of specific technical and stylistic demands. Students may also take as many as four semesters each of voice and speech training and movement training.

The undergraduate degree program in psychology is designed to provide you with educational and research experiences that can prepare you for graduate or professional school in academic psychology, medicine, dentistry, nursing, public health, and law—to name a few. The bachelors degree program in psychology can also prepare you for diverse careers in applied fields such as counseling, business, and health and human services. If you plan to major in psychology, we recommend that you meet with our advisors as early as possible to plan a program of study consistent with your interests and goals.

A strong mathematics background is essential to an increasing variety of careers. The Department of Mathematics encourages students to select a coherent body of courses in mathematics and in other disciplines that are consistent with their academic and career goals.

The Department of Anthropology synthesizes humanistic and scientific perspectives on human biological and cultural diversity as well as the evolutionary trends seen for humankind. Students and faculty bring this integrated perspective to interactions and collaborations with others in a variety of departments and programs in each of the Colleges across the University.

Courses in anthropology acquaint students with the range of human behavior as differentially explored within each of the subdisciplines within anthropology—archaeology, biological anthropology, and cultural anthropology. Research or methodological courses outfit students with valuable analytic and research skills in qualitative, quantitative and GIS analysis as well as in content-appropriate analytic protocols, as for the analysis of archaeological and ethnographic materials.
