It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration - Marketing
Savvy marketing professionals who can think strategically, create relevance and deliver measurable results are in high demand in today's workforce. A marketing degree from UWF can help you make your mark in this demanding field.
Why Study Marketing at UWF?
A B.S.B.A. in Marketing prepares you for a career in business or marketing. Historically, a large portion of top-level managers in major corporations are promoted from the marketing area.
You will receive a strong grounding in business and the major areas of marketing, which will give you flexibility to pursue jobs in either creative or quantitative disciplines.
The College of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, known as AACSB International, something fewer than 4.7% of business schools worldwide can say.
You will start your studies with a foundation of core business courses on topics such as e-business fundamentals, managerial finance, international business and business ethics.
Then you will choose one of three specializations — comprehensive marketing, global marketing or sales management — working closely with an advisor to customize the curriculum to meet your career goals.
Several courses feature industry clients with real issues and deadlines that can lead to internship and career opportunities.
Our student chapter of the American Marketing Association provides networking opportunities and skill development. The chapter created the U Choose Awards, which measure the brand equity of businesses and organizations in the Pensacola area, based on surveys of UWF students.
A minor in marketing will provide you with a broad introduction to marketing, accounting and economics. Available for non-business majors, a minor in marketing applications provides you with the professional marketing skills and knowledge necessary for positions in business.

Bachelor of Music Education
Throughout time, music has both reflected and driven philosophies, social, political and cultural movements. Those who study and practice music engage in these rich contexts, which continue to define and shape our world.
Are you interested in teaching music? Our program offers low student-teacher ratios and one-on-one instruction in applied studies that provide the personalized mentoring and guidance needed to achieve professional success. The Dr. Grier Williams School of Music was established in 2020 after receiving the largest cash gift in the history of the University of West Florida. Students in the school of music and members of the Argo Athletic Band now benefit from an endowed scholarship fund in excess of $7 million. This transformative gift has created a new landscape of opportunity for our school, leading to unprecedented growth and innovation across our music curriculum.
What You Will Learn
The Dr. Grier Williams School of Music faculty specialize in a wide array of research, scholarly, and creative activities. These areas include instrumental and vocal performance, conducting, chamber music, jazz studies, opera studies, and K-12 music education methods and pedagogy.
You will gain skills in solo and ensemble performing, instrumental music methods, conducting, classroom management, music literature, music history, and vocal and piano pedagogy.
The University of West Florida is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), and has been accredited by NASM since 1971. UWF is also an All-Steinway school. You will have access to three multi-use performing spaces in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts, and a wide variety of free arts and cultural events will support and complement the work you do in the classroom.

Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology
The University of West Florida is one of only a few institutions in the United States which offers a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology. The program is provided through the Department of Biology. The curriculum includes a series of seven core courses fundamental to all areas of biology. Elective courses emphasize theoretical and practical aspects of aquatic/marine biology. Wetlands and estuarine marshes of the main campus, as well as the nearby Santa Rosa Island campus and the Gulf of Mexico, provide living specimens for study and serve as laboratories supporting elective courses. Graduates may seek careers in marine biology, fisheries management, aquaculture, pollution biology, and marine toxicology, and find employment in local, state, and federal departments of environmental regulation and education, as well as the private sector. Graduates are also well prepared to pursue advanced degrees. Prospective students need to be aware that some biology lab courses involve the use of live animals; students may wish to seek details from course instructors before enrolling.
