The fascinating science of biotechnology utilizes living organisms and biological systems to make or modify products for a specific use through:

• DNA manipulation and analysis.
• Expression and purification of proteins.
• Cell and tissue culture techniques.
• Enzyme and antibody assays.
• Research design and laboratory safety.
• Computer analyses of DNA & protein sequences (bioinformatics).

If you have an interest in the sciences and a desire to position yourself at the cutting edge of emerging industries, HCC’s biotechnology laboratory technology program can prepare you for a rewarding hands-on career in biotechnology research, cell and tissue culture or biotechnology manufacturing.

The two-year program provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to perform in a high-tech laboratory environment.  The program offers flexibility for students to focus in the fields of engineering, environmental sciences, math and science, information technology or the health sciences.

The engineering technology AS degree provides specialized training on state-of-the-art equipment that helps you develop the skills for an advanced manufacturing career. Prepare to earn the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) Certified Production Technician (CPT) industry certification and step into a high-skill, high-wage position.

Our aquaculture AS degree program provides you with the knowledge and skills for an entry-level job in the aquaculture industry as a field/farm assistant or a laboratory technician. You may also find employment in state agencies such as the Fresh Water Fish and Wildlife Commission that oversee environment and wildlife.

The Humanities AA pathway is for students who wish to pursue a bachelor's degree in Humanities or a related field. Humanities is an interdisciplinary program with coursework that covers a broad range of studies. The curriculum encourages students to broaden their world view by studying history, literature, fine arts, philosophy, and foreign languages.

The Foreign Language AA pathway is for students who plan to transfer to a Florida public university as a junior to complete a bachelors’ degree with a major or minor in a Foreign Language.

This broad interdisciplinary approach can lead to a variety of career paths in government and international affairs, business, journalism, service professions, education, criminal justice, social sciences and public health.

This pathway is for students who want to pursue a four-year degree in the supply chain industry, which functions to facilitate the flow of goods, services, and finances among business on a global scale. Careers include positions in manufacturing, distribution, transportation, and retail.

For each pathway, IDS 2891 is a degree requirement, and for most of the pathways, SLS 1106 is required for first-time-in-college students. CGS 2100 may be able to be tested out for no credit. The computer science engineering AA pathway degree is for students who want to pursue a Bachelor's degree in computer and information engineering sciences. Technical careers may include planning and developing new computer systems, computer programming, software development, systems analyst and technical writing.
