Associate of Arts in Humanities Pathway

This pathway is for students who want to pursue a four-year college/university degree in such fields as history, humanities, education, pre-law, political science, museum studies, journalism, library science, archeology/classics or international studies programs. This pathway is broadly designed to allow students to cater the major to their own interests, however, students are encouraged to meet with a full-time history faculty member to discuss their program interests in their first semester at HCC.

Please note only 60 of these credits are needed for AA degree completion. For each pathway, IDS 2891 is a degree requirement, and for most of the pathways, SLS 1106 is required for first?time?in?college students. CGS 2100 may be able to be tested out for no credit. The HCC Statistics Associate in Arts degree pathway is for students who wish to pursue a bachelor's degree in statistics or a related field at a four-year university. Many university programs require the completion of specific courses prior to acceptance. It is the student's responsibility to contact the institution to ensure transferability.

The Liberal Arts & Sciences pathway is designed for students who want to pursue a bachelor's degree in a variety of fields. Depending upon the focus of study, careers are available in such fields as linguistics, criminal justice, history, ethnic studies, foreign language, social sciences, journalism and computer science.

The medical sciences pathway AA degree is ideal for students who wish to pursue Bachelor's degrees and/or professional programs in the dental, medical or veterinary fields. Depending upon your chosen degree, careers include dentist, physician, chiropractor, pharmacist, veterinarian and teacher, plus a variety of other jobs in related fields such as physical or occupational therapist, researcher and salesperson.

Nursing is a challenging, rewarding career. A nationwide nursing shortage means great career opportunities are available. Accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), our nursing AS degree program takes four semesters, and graduates are eligible to take the National licensing exam NCLEX. The mass communications AA pathway degree is perfect for students seeking a Bachelor's degree in mass communications, journalism, advertising, public relations, education or telecommunications. The AA pathway in Anthropology is for students who want to pursue a bachelor's degree in anthropology or a related field. Anthropology is the study of humans, past and present. To understand the full sweep and complexity of cultures across human history, anthropology draws and builds upon knowledge from the social and biological sciences as well as the humanities and physical sciences.

The HCC Philosophy Associate in Arts degree pathway is a for students who wish to pursue a bachelor's degree in philosophy at a college or university. The associate degree provides students with the foundational knowledge required to enhance their understanding of philosophy as a critical inquiry of nature and human society, to analyze and evaluate major paradigms in philosophy from historical and contemporary perspectives, to sharpen critical thinking and argumentative skills, and to prepare students to transfer to a university.

This degree offers students a fundamental understanding of the main fields of philosophy, including logic, ethics, epistemology, metaphysics, social and political philosophy, aesthetics, and philosophy of religion while exposing students to a broad spectrum of philosophical theories.
