The master’s degree in design and merchandising with a specialization in apparel and merchandising provides a focus on scientific discovery and creative scholarship grounded in sustainability, health and wellness, and social responsibility. The B.F.A. in Art is considered the professional degree for studio art and art education majors, allowing you to explore various mediums and gain a foundational knowledge base in art history. You’ll get opportunities to learn from masters of their crafts as well as look back upon art throughout the ages, different forms of expression, and their impact on society.

Painting - Concentration
The Painting concentration gives students the ability to explore, develop, and gain personal understanding of the visual language and technical aspects of the painting medium. Additionally, it encourages the development of material experimentation and conceptual thinking in the upper-level courses. Students begin by working from observation, developing skills and proficiency in oils. As students gain skills and abilities with oil paints, they are encouraged to challenge the very notion of what painting is by exploring alternative tools, methods, materials, and surfaces. Discipline and perseverance are strengthened as students develop a unique voice, conceptually and formally. In their senior year, students work closely with the Painting faculty to develop a distinctive body of work that is sophisticated in its content and scope.

The Master of Social Work features an accredited, advanced generalist curriculum that will prepare you to become a social work practitioner in a variety of settings. You will learn to advance health and well-being, challenge inequities, and promote social justice and human rights for individuals and communities. The program is offered in a variety of formats including the standard two-year program, advanced standing for students who already hold a BSW, part-time hybrid options, and an MSW/MPH dual degree.

Printmaking - Concentration
Printmaking courses at the undergraduate level are structured to develop a strong personal artistic vision and instill the self-confidence necessary to allow ongoing creative growth through a variety of media. A sound technical background in Lithography, Screen-Printing, Intaglio, Relief Woodcut, Post-Digital methods and encouragement of experimental hybrid techniques will provide students with the professional skills needed to cultivate a robust studio practice and explore new innovative research based on that foundation. The community workshop atmosphere of the printmaking area immerses students in group collaboration as well as personal exploration, thus preparing each student for real-world occupational applications of their research. Through sharing visual concepts and technical investigations on a regular basis, students learn how to apply newly acquired knowledge productively and intuitively, while simultaneously developing skill sets desired by prospective employers. Interactive artistic dialog between highly motivated printmakers is a cornerstone to the printmaking curriculum, leading to a wide array of unique and diverse avenues for creative inquiry.

The Business major encourages critical thinking while exploring modern management theories, relevant business practices, and current industry trends. You’ll discover your interests along the way and begin to focus your studies based on your interests and talents. Then you can choose from 10 concentrations to merge your academic focus with your career goals.

Finance - Concentration
Every business has a distinct set of resources to consider — such as raw materials, human resources, products, or marketing — but everyone has one unifying resource they need to manage before they can pursue any of their goals: money.

By studying finance at the CSU College of Business, you’ll learn how to measure and analyze the ways that organizations grow and help them navigate through risks and toward success. If you’re interested in understanding how all the functions of a business are tied together and are a passionate problem-solver, a concentration in finance allows you to put your interests to work.

Anthropology students learn to describe, analyze, and interpret the human condition. The program is integrative, drawing from geography, biology, the humanities, and other social and natural sciences. Geography figures prominently in our program and provides an important lens through which human groups are examined over time. Students can engage in four programmatic areas defined by faculty research: humans and the environment, international development and globalization, health and well-being, and professional methods and techniques. The department values and promotes experiential training, primary research, and public engagement and education.

Collaboratively formed in 2008 by the University of Colorado, Colorado State University, and the University of Northern Colorado, the Colorado School of Public Health  provides training, innovative research and community service to actively address public health issues including chronic disease, access to healthcare, environmental threats, emerging infectious diseases, and costly injuries.

The Equine Science major provides students with an industry-oriented, science-based education that prepares them for careers in a growing equine industry or one of the many industries associated with equine production.  The curriculum focuses on in-depth scientific knowledge of equine physiology and function and how to relate those scientific principles to the industry. Equine Science majors develop a broad understanding of the horse as it relates to business, recreational, and production aspects of the industry through selection of specialized courses to enhance their technical, practical, and business skills.

It’s no secret that knowing other languages opens doors to a world of opportunities. This major offers undergraduate instruction in 10 languages, concentrations in French, German and Spanish, and opportunities for education abroad. You’ll gain the ability to communicate in another tongue, but also to analyze literary texts and films, to understand the workings of language, to appreciate diversity and to interact successfully across cultures.

Spanish - Concentration
Courses include language, linguistics, translation, Latin American literatures and cultures, Peninsular literatures and cultures and Transatlantic studies. Students join the Spanish Club, El Centro, and study abroad.

Biology is the study of all living things—including microscopic bacteria and viruses, plants, and animals, and their relationship to their environments. Biology majors study the structure and function of cells, organ systems and tissues of animals and plants, ecology (the relationship between living things and their environment), animal behavior, genetics/genomics and evolution. They learn about physiology, behavior, genetics and heredity, aquatic systems, microscopic organisms such as bacteria, and techniques for diverse areas ranging from field research to biotechnology. This major provides a solid foundation of understanding the basic biological sciences. It also offers an opportunity to choose an area of emphasis within life sciences that relates to particular career goals (for example: the ecology of organisms, cell and molecular biology, biomedical professions, aquatic biology, marine biology, plant molecular biology for agricultural biotechnology and bioenergy, evolutionary biology, etc.).
