Finance - Concentration
Every business has a distinct set of resources to consider — such as raw materials, human resources, products, or marketing — but everyone has one unifying resource they need to manage before they can pursue any of their goals: money.

By studying finance at the CSU College of Business, you’ll learn how to measure and analyze the ways that organizations grow and help them navigate through risks and toward success. If you’re interested in understanding how all the functions of a business are tied together and are a passionate problem-solver, a concentration in finance allows you to put your interests to work.

Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) is an exciting field with many career opportunities. The mission of this interdepartmental major is to prepare professionals dedicated to enhancing the well-being of individuals, families, and the communities and environments in which they live and/or work.

Students graduate with an interdisciplinary perspective about the challenges encountered by families and consumers. Through coursework, students gain skills to assist families and consumers with quality of life decisions and challenges related to interpersonal/human relationships, consumer and financial resource management, personal development, nutrition and wellness, and balancing family and work.

This program emphasizes the management and problem-solving skills needed to be a responsible and productive individual, family member, and worker. Students take coursework in a variety of departments including, but not limited to:

Students have the option of the FCS concentration or the FCS Education concentration. Upon graduating, students will be eligible to take the exam to be certified in FCS with the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.

Forest landscapes are always changing, sometimes very slowly as a result of long-term processes, followed by rapid changes as a result of fires or harvesting. Sustaining forests in the modern world requires people who understand these changes and how forests connect to global, ecological, and social systems. Colorado’s high-elevation grasslands, forests, and riparian areas provide the perfect backdrop for this area of study, and you’ll get plenty of chances to learn outdoors as you become a steward of the lands.

The Master of Science degree in food science and nutrition with a specialization in food science provides a focus on the health properties of food, food microbiology, safety, and chemistry. You will have the opportunity to research and learn about the processes commonly used in food production, and various methods of improving food safety and quality. The increasing public focus on healthy eating and food sustainability makes an advanced degree in food science especially valuable. This program will prepare you to pursue more advanced degrees or take on jobs in the fields of food systems and microbiology.

Areas of Study

• The Master of Science degree in Food Science and Nutrition with specialization in Food Science includes advanced studies oriented toward food science, food microbiology, food preservation and safety, and health properties of foods and food components. The program provides students with training for doctoral studies and professional degrees, as well as careers in government agencies and industry. A minimum of 35 credits is required for the MS degree.

The B.F.A. in Art is considered the professional degree for studio art and art education majors, allowing you to explore various mediums and gain a foundational knowledge base in art history. You’ll get opportunities to learn from masters of their crafts as well as look back upon art throughout the ages, different forms of expression, and their impact on society.

Metalsmithing - Concentration
The Metalsmithing concentration offers students the opportunity to explore a range of traditional techniques and processes, while emphasizing formal and conceptual development within their own artistic practice. Class projects introduce and strengthen technical skills, and provide awareness of both historical and contemporary practice within the field.

Students are encouraged to enter regional and national juried exhibitions, to participate in workshops and conferences, and ultimately to locate and establish a place for themselves within the field of contemporary jewelry and metalsmithing, either professionally, academically, or both.

Throughout your studies in apparel and merchandising, you’ll gain a broad historical and cultural foundation in the fashion industry, along with opportunities to design and create, analyze consumer behavior, and discover how everything from textile design to product development to brand marketing can help shape cultural understanding and awareness. You’ll begin with hands-on learning, internships, and a student-run shows; you’ll end with a degree that can take you almost anywhere.
