It’s no secret that knowing other languages opens doors to a world of opportunities. This major offers undergraduate instruction in 10 languages, concentrations in French, German and Spanish, and opportunities for education abroad. You’ll gain the ability to communicate in another tongue, but also to analyze literary texts and films, to understand the workings of language, to appreciate diversity and to interact successfully across cultures.

Students take courses in language, literature, linguistics, culture, and practical applications such as Business German or translation and host cultural events through the German Club.

The Department of English is home to poets and linguists, literacy researchers and teacher educators, novelists and literary scholars, composition specialists and writers of creative nonfiction.

The Major in Interior Architecture and Design exemplifies the definition of the professional designer as qualified by education, experience, and examination to design interior environments that enhance the function and quality of life, increase productivity, and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public. Academic preparation is grounded in research-based problem solving and experiential education through studio instruction, service learning, and internships that encompass a variety of cultural, environmental, and historical perspectives. The program has a longstanding accreditation by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), recognizing the highest academic standards established by the profession.

Students seeking to apply to the Interior Architecture and Design major at CSU first are admitted to CSU as Pre-Interior Architecture and Design. All students who wish to be considered for admission to Interior Architecture and Design (IAD) major will be required to complete the Interior Architecture and Design Scenario practicum. Selective advancement into the major is based on the review received at the IAD Scenario, where external reviewers will assess student competencies in writing for design, sketching, problem-solving, and conceptual frameworks. A cohort of approximately 50-60 students advances based on performance on the IAD Design Scenario. The IAD Design Scenario occurs annually in the spring semester. Our Master of Engineering degree is a 30-credit coursework only degree program. The curriculum is divided into four different categories: core, foundation, depth, and breadth. The core and foundation courses are designed to develop a foundation in biomedical engineering. The depth courses allow students to gain more knowledge in a particular interest area while the breadth courses focus on advanced or applied mathematics.

The International Studies major is an interdisciplinary program designed to help you explore and understand the nature of diverse cultures and peoples. You’ll learn a broad range of subjects, all of which contribute to a wide range of job prospects from government, academics, law and foreign service to communications, media, journalism, and beyond. Within the major, you’ll have multiple opportunities to travel, learn languages, and explore cultures around the world. This major includes an accelerated option for students to graduate on a faster schedule.

Asian Studies - Concentration
Students focus on Asian cultures and societies through a combination of history, religions, philosophy, literature, art, and political science, along with three years of language (Chinese, Japanese, or substitution with advisor approval) to help them interpret Asia’s present and past. Geographical study areas include China, Korea, Japan, the Indian Subcontinent, the Pacific Islands, and more.

The Department of Geosciences offers a Masters of Science degree and a Doctor of Philosophy degree. Completion of a graduate degree is excellent preparation for a career in governmental agencies, private industry, teaching, or research. An innovative mind, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a passion for the arts are all essential for success. These principles are not just exclusive to artists, but serve all students well, no matter where their career leads them. This program is offered by the LEAP Institute for the Arts, a special academic unit of Colorado State University’s College of Liberal Arts.

The Hospitality Management major combines courses in foodservice, lodging, event planning, nutrition, and business to provide students with a strong skill set for entry into hospitality management professions. Elective credits allow students to take courses in areas of interest to enhance their education. The curriculum has a strong emphasis on management skills required for success in the hospitality industry.

The Hospitality Management program maintains strong ties with the foodservice, lodging, and event planning industries locally, state-wide, and nationally to connect graduates with a wide variety of employment opportunities in the expanding commercial and non-commercial segments of hospitality management. The hospitality industry is the second largest employer in Colorado and the United States. The department oversees internships in the industry and aids in job placement upon graduation.

The Master of Applied Statistics Data Science Specialization emphasizes practical methods in statistics and data science, focusing on applications and computational aspects, rather than theory. Students will receive a strong background in statistical and business computing while completing at least 30 credits for this degree. The degree can be complete full-time in one year or part-time in two to four years. Students who succeed in the field of data science typically have strong quantitative skills, analytical minds, and like to help other people solve problems. The goal of this degree is to enable students to start working as data scientists in business, industry, or government immediately after graduation.

The Master of Science degree in food science and nutrition with a specialization in food science provides a focus on the health properties of food, food microbiology, safety, and chemistry. You will have the opportunity to research and learn about the processes commonly used in food production, and various methods of improving food safety and quality. The increasing public focus on healthy eating and food sustainability makes an advanced degree in food science especially valuable. This program will prepare you to pursue more advanced degrees or take on jobs in the fields of food systems and microbiology.

• The Master of Science degree in Food Science and Nutrition with specialization in Food Science includes advanced studies oriented toward food science, food microbiology, food preservation and safety, and health properties of foods and food components. The program provides students with training for doctoral studies and professional degrees, as well as careers in government agencies and industry. A minimum of 35 credits is required for the MS degree.
