The department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has been a leader in innovation for more than a century.  The ECE faculty prepare students for the vast, fast-paced field of electrical and computer engineering by emphasizing the fundamentals, while teaching them how to think creatively and work collaboratively.

The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Music allows students to study music within a larger context of a liberal arts education. In comparison to the curriculum leading to the Bachelor of Music (B.M.), less emphasis is placed on studies specifically in music, with greater flexibility for studies in a field outside of music. In lieu of a larger number of credits in music as required for the B.M, the B.A. student completes a 21-credit option in an area outside of music. In addition, completion of a major paper or capstone recital (half recital) is required during the senior year.

Composition - Concentration
The Composition concentration is a professional undergraduate degree program designed to prepare the student to compose original music for a wide variety of genres, including symphonic works, chamber music, electronic music, and music for media. Course work emphasizes comprehensive musicianship, with particular emphasis on individualized study in music composition.

The Department of Clinical Services offers a number of research opportunities for graduate students in the major Academic Centers.  Academic Centers include the Animal Heart Center, Center for Immune and Regenerative Medicine, Center for Pain Management, Animal Population Health Institute, Orthopaedic Research Center, Animal Cancer Center, Integrated Livestock Management, and the Center for Companion Animal Studies.

The Master of Science in clinical sciences offers two options for prospective students in a variety of research areas:

• Track 1: Those who enroll in the non-thesis clinical option are typically post-D.V.M. students also pursuing residency training programs.
• Track 2: Students who enroll in the traditional thesis-based research program may not have a D.V.M. and work under the support of a faculty member’s lab.

The track will prepare students for ‌careers‌ ‌in‌ ‌a‌ ‌variety‌ ‌of‌ ‌governmental‌ ‌and‌ ‌non-governmental‌ ‌organizations,‌ ‌ranging‌ ‌from‌ ‌non-profits‌ ‌to‌ ‌advocacy‌ ‌groups‌ ‌to‌ ‌the‌ ‌private‌ ‌sector.‌ It ‌will‌ ‌also‌ ‌serve‌ ‌students‌ ‌who‌ ‌plan‌ ‌to‌ ‌continue‌ ‌their education‌ ‌in‌ ‌professional‌ ‌schools‌ ‌or‌ ‌Ph.D.‌ ‌programs, or secondary school educators who would like to deepen their expertise in‌ ‌the‌ ‌humanities‌ ‌and‌ ‌social‌ sciences.‌

The Geography major is housed in the Department of Anthropology and Geography. Through coursework and internship opportunities, majors are provided with a broad background in geographic thinking. The major emphasizes interactions between humans and the environment in an era of rapid global change. Critical study of diverse relationships between space, place, humans, built and natural environments allows students to interpret geographic features, patterns and processes.

The Geography curriculum also concentrates specifically on mountain ecosystems and human-environment interactions. Coursework takes advantage of faculty expertise in these areas of study, some of which are specific to the state of Colorado. Geography faculty use a wide range of research methods, including geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, spatial modeling, spatial statistics, participatory methods and ethnography to address applied research questions in Colorado, the Rocky Mountains, Patagonia, Southeast Asia, Latin America, Melanesia, and Africa. The master’s degree in design and merchandising with a specialization in apparel and merchandising provides a focus on scientific discovery and creative scholarship grounded in sustainability, health and wellness, and social responsibility. You will have an opportunity to learn about and conduct research in diverse fields of the discipline including apparel design and production, consumer behavior, historic costume and textiles, merchandising, product development, social-psychological and cultural aspects of dress, and textile science supporting well-being.

Sociology is the study of social life. It focuses on the interaction between human groups and societal institutions, from social relationships within family units in preindustrial cultures to those within large, bureaucratic institutions in major industrialized nations. As one of the largest and most diverse departments on campus, we pride ourselves on celebrating our many backgrounds, experiences, and different ways of thinking. What binds us together is the desire to make the world a better place by understanding how society works and helping solve problems.

Sociology majors have many opportunities to pursue broad and diverse ranges of interest. Students gain a sense of social perspective, an understanding of human affairs, an ability to think critically and perform research, and a capacity to write well. The curriculum includes general courses in the arts and humanities and the social sciences along with sociology course work. A generous selection of electives allows students to major or minor in a complementary discipline. A Sociology major also may enroll in one of the interdisciplinary minors, such as Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Religious Studies, or Women’s and Gender Studies.
