Chinese Studies
CHINESE STUDIES explores one of the world’s most powerful shapers of the future. Majoring or double-majoring in Chinese Studies opens doors and makes graduates uniquely desirable to employers in any number of fields, from business to the sciences to humanities and fine arts. Available as a major or minor program of study.

Through its rigorous curriculum, the Chinese program prepares students linguistically and intellectually for interaction with China and the Chinese-speaking world. Speaking, reading and translating are stressed at all levels of language instruction. Extracurricular activities—study groups, field trips, films and more—help to integrate the study of the language and the culture.

The Drew Economics Department has established three broad objectives for its economics curriculum. It teaches students analytical tools for understanding the functioning of economic systems, familiarizes them with the origin, character, and operation of economic institutions, and enables them to make informed judgments about economic policy.

The Political Science and International Relations Department engages students in the study of how people govern themselves—from the smallest communities to the international system. In the town meeting, the halls of Congress or the United Nations, the great political questions are the same—how to reconcile individual aspirations and community needs, freedom and equality, authority and justice, participation and power.

The department offers students a major in Political Science and another one in International Relations. We also offer minors in Political Science, International Relations and Law Justice and Society.

Political Science is the study of how people govern themselves. The major provides students a solid grounding in American politics, international relations, comparative politics and political theory. Through thought-provoking courses and multiple experiential learning opportunities, including the possibility of taking courses in Washington, D.C., political science majors work closely with the faculty to explore politics and government from many different viewpoints.

German Studies
GERMAN STUDIES majors master a language known for its intellectual and creative culture. The language itself is desired and often required for graduate level study in many fields, such as history, political science music or philosophy. Many of our students find that double-majoring in German opens doors for further education and employment. Available as a major or minor program of study.Drew’s German Studies program offers instruction of the highest quality, emphasizes innovative learning and integrates language, literature and culture. Drew’s proximity to New York City is important because it represents one of the largest concentrations of German culture outside of Europe, and there are regular excursions to Manhattan to experience opera, classical music, art exhibitions and restaurants. On campus, the German Studies program organizes and sponsors speakers, films and concerts. Drew has a chapter of the national German honor society, Delta Phi Alpha. We strongly encourage study abroad and offer opportunities in German-speaking countries.

Theatre Arts
The Department of Theatre and Dance trains you in the full range of theatrical disciplines, providing you with mentorship and support in creative expression, critical thinking and personal development. Our goal is to create total theatre artists.
The Theatre department at Drew is dedicated to a broad-based study of the history, literature, theory and practice of theatre and its various disciplines in the context of an overall liberal arts education. Students grow as artists through rigorous academic courses, internships, exciting opportunities for professional collaboration and an extensive co-curricular production program that centers on student initiative.

Physics
Physics provides much of the conceptual foundation and instrumentation fundamental to astronomy, engineering and other sciences. It has inspired the creative work of mathematicians, philosophers and social scientists. Drew’s program is designed to provide rigorous preparation for those planning careers in the field, while also serving the needs of liberal arts students interested in a variety of other careers.

Media and Communications
Media and Communications is designed to investigate how media and communication shapes identity, society and democratic processes. Available as a major or minor program of study.
Whether your interest is in media production, film, social media, journalism, advertising, or the impact media messages have on our lives, a degree in media and communications at Drew can help you meet your goals.
Our major prepares students for graduate work or further professional training, as well as for positions in media and communications industries. Courses developed by faculty in more than a dozen disciplines allow students to explore all aspects of media and communication from the theoretical to the practical, including media analysis and documentary production.

Mathematics lies at the heart of the liberal arts. Based in abstraction and logical reasoning, mathematics is both a body of knowledge and an elegant and useful way of perceiving our world. Through mathematics, we can distill and describe the otherwise hidden patterns and relations among things. Because of this, mathematics finds ubiquitous application, from the natural and social sciences to the humanities and the arts. Precise abstraction and quantification play an increasingly important role in these diverse areas, and the study of mathematics can provide a foundation for any of them.

International Relations is the study of the systems and structures that exist (or should exist) to address global concerns. The major provides students thought-provoking courses and multiple experiential learning opportunities, including the Semester on the United Nations, to explore how competing global, regional or domestic factors affect relations between state and non-state actors as they deal with an increasing number of global challenges and threats.
