International Year One in Computer Science will prepare you to enter your next semester of a bachelor’s degree program at Drew University.Upon successful completion of International Year One and meeting university requirements for undergraduate admission, you may enter your third year of undergraduate study at Drew University or at a number of well-known US universities. Computer Science
Computer science is centered around the practice of applied problem solving using technology. Rooted in the natural sciences and mathematics, it relates to many aspects of the social sciences (e.g., social network analysis, human-computer interaction, etc.), the arts (e.g., interaction design) and the humanities (e.g., media studies).
Drew’s computer science program is designed to stimulate critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity, together with effective communication skills that prepare students for academic and professional achievement. Computer science students at Drew learn by doing. In many courses, students and instructors explore core computing topics through projects, often for real customers. To date, these projects have resulted in many completed software applications installed and in use at our partner sites. Other opportunities for real-world learning include a variety of internships and collaborative research projects with our faculty and other students.

The biology major offers students the opportunity to study the biological basis of life from a wide range of perspectives, from ecosystems to organisms to cells and molecules. A critical component of our curriculum is active, inquiry-based learning, including classroom and laboratory experiences that provide not only in-depth exposure to core concepts in biology but also development of skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, data analysis, and scientific writing.

We offer a rigorous scientific curriculum grounded in the liberal arts tradition of making connections with many areas both within and outside of the sciences, as students learn to apply their knowledge to real-world problems. Accounting
The accounting program takes a rigorous, integrated, analytic, and critical approach to the study and practice of accounting. The curriculum gives students the tools and skills to analyze domestic and global organizations’ financial health.  We stress the importance of data-informed decisions and ethical considerations across the accounting field.  Our majors graduate prepared to work in a variety of accounting roles across public and private industries, while helping interested students prepare for the CPA exam and a career as a certified accountant.

International Year One program in Pre-Engineering will prepare you to enter your next semester of a bachelor’s degree program at Drew University. Upon successful completion of International Year one and meeting university requirements for undergraduate admission, you may enter your third year of undergraduate study at a number of well-known US universities.
This transition from an INTO program to a university degree program is called progression. You must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA per semester to remain in good academic standing in the Pathway program at Drew.

Business
The Business major takes an integrated, multifaceted, interdisciplinary, and critical approach to the study and practice of business. The program emphasizes teamwork; critical analysis; and quantitative, oral, and written communication skills.  Our graduates are prepared to work across many industries in diverse contexts, including corporations, non-profits, and public organizations, in both domestic and international settings, with others from different cultures and disciplinary perspectives.

Mathematics
Mathematics lies at the heart of the liberal arts. Based in abstraction and logical reasoning, mathematics is both a body of knowledge and an elegant and useful way of perceiving our world. Through mathematics, we can distill and describe the otherwise hidden patterns and relations among things. Because of this, mathematics finds ubiquitous application, from the natural and social sciences to the humanities and the arts. Precise abstraction and quantification play an increasingly important role in these diverse areas, and the study of mathematics can provide a foundation for any of them.

Within the context of a liberal arts education, the Drew University Music Department nurtures and supports the development of a well-rounded and integrated understanding of music through a balanced curriculum providing experiences in historical study and research, solo and ensemble performance, theoretical and style analysis, and original composition work. The foundation of our curriculum is built upon the classical Western European tradition with extensions provided into musics of the world, jazz, popular, and new music practices.

The study of music at Drew extends a student’s comprehension of history and society while also preparing him or her for a career in music. The expression of ideas and emotions through music is integral to every culture. The broadly educated musician is in demand in the recording industry, education, theater, film, television, and radio.

Faculty work closely with students to create a curriculum integrating the study of Music History, Composition/Theory & Performance.

GERMAN STUDIES majors master a language known for its intellectual and creative culture. The language itself is desired and often required for graduate level study in many fields, such as history, political science music or philosophy. Many of our students find that double-majoring in German opens doors for further education and employment. Available as a major or minor program of study.
Drew’s German Studies program offers instruction of the highest quality, emphasizes innovative learning and integrates language, literature and culture. Drew’s proximity to New York City is important because it represents one of the largest concentrations of German culture outside of Europe, and there are regular excursions to Manhattan to experience opera, classical music, art exhibitions and restaurants. On campus, the German Studies program organizes and sponsors speakers, films and concerts. Drew has a chapter of the national German honor society, Delta Phi Alpha. We strongly encourage study abroad and offer opportunities in German-speaking countries.

Theatre Arts
The Department of Theatre and Dance trains you in the full range of theatrical disciplines, providing you with mentorship and support in creative expression, critical thinking and personal development. Our goal is to create total theatre artists.
The Theatre department at Drew is dedicated to a broad-based study of the history, literature, theory and practice of theatre and its various disciplines in the context of an overall liberal arts education. Students grow as artists through rigorous academic courses, internships, exciting opportunities for professional collaboration and an extensive co-curricular production program that centers on student initiative.
