Our major prepares students for graduate work or further professional training, as well as for positions in media and communications industries. Courses developed by faculty in more than a dozen disciplines allow students to explore all aspects of media and communication from the theoretical to the practical, including media analysis and documentary production.

Theatre Arts
The Department of Theatre and Dance trains you in the full range of theatrical disciplines, providing you with mentorship and support in creative expression, critical thinking and personal development. Our goal is to create total theatre artists.
The Theatre department at Drew is dedicated to a broad-based study of the history, literature, theory and practice of theatre and its various disciplines in the context of an overall liberal arts education. Students grow as artists through rigorous academic courses, internships, exciting opportunities for professional collaboration and an extensive co-curricular production program that centers on student initiative.

Finance
The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Finance major is designed to appeal to students wanting to immerse themselves in financial markets and data analysis.  Our rigorous and exciting curriculum engages our students through real-world exposure to U.S. and global markets, and prepares our graduates for success in careers throughout the financial industry.

International Year One program in Pre-Engineering will prepare you to enter your next semester of a bachelor’s degree program at Drew University. Upon successful completion of International Year one and meeting university requirements for undergraduate admission, you may enter your third year of undergraduate study at a number of well-known US universities.
This transition from an INTO program to a university degree program is called progression. You must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA per semester to remain in good academic standing in the Pathway program at Drew.

Mathematics
Mathematics lies at the heart of the liberal arts. Based in abstraction and logical reasoning, mathematics is both a body of knowledge and an elegant and useful way of perceiving our world. Through mathematics, we can distill and describe the otherwise hidden patterns and relations among things. Because of this, mathematics finds ubiquitous application, from the natural and social sciences to the humanities and the arts. Precise abstraction and quantification play an increasingly important role in these diverse areas, and the study of mathematics can provide a foundation for any of them.

Economics
The Drew Economics Department has established three broad objectives for its economics curriculum. It teaches students analytical tools for understanding the functioning of economic systems, familiarizes them with the origin, character, and operation of economic institutions, and enables them to make informed judgments about economic policy.

Biology
The biology major offers students the opportunity to study the biological basis of life from a wide range of perspectives, from ecosystems to organisms to cells and molecules. A critical component of our curriculum is active, inquiry-based learning, including classroom and laboratory experiences that provide not only in-depth exposure to core concepts in biology but also development of skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, data analysis, and scientific writing.

We offer a rigorous scientific curriculum grounded in the liberal arts tradition of making connections with many areas both within and outside of the sciences, as students learn to apply their knowledge to real-world problems. CLASSICS is the study of ancient Greek and Roman cultures, and their still vibrant legacy. Many students find it a natural fit for a double major, pairing classics with philosophy, art history, English, religion, theatre arts—even biology. Available as a major or minor program of study.

Classics might seem specialized, but since it’s the foundation of all liberal education it’s as broad as it can be—grad schools and employers appreciate this education.

Go to law school or pursue disciplines such as political science, civil engineering or theatre, all founded on classical ideas.
We take regular trips to the Metropolitan Museum in New York to see its amazing collection of antiquities. If that’s not adequate, intern there. It’s been done, and we can help.

The French program at Drew seeks to provide students with all levels of proficiency in the French language, and to offer them in-depth study of French and Francophone literature and culture.

We have a very diversified curriculum in French and Francophone studies that includes popular culture, cinema, business French and literature ranging from the 17th to the 21st centuries. Our instructors are either native speakers or have lived and studied in French-speaking countries for extended periods.

Conducted entirely in French, our language courses make extensive use of a vast array of multimedia tools that foster intensive student participation. Our culture and literature courses are interdisciplinary and focus both on the French and Francophone worlds. For non-French speakers interested in French studies, we also offer several courses in English (French and Francophone Women Writers and Francophone Literatures in Translation).

CHINESE STUDIES explores one of the world’s most powerful shapers of the future. Majoring or double-majoring in Chinese Studies opens doors and makes graduates uniquely desirable to employers in any number of fields, from business to the sciences to humanities and fine arts. Available as a major or minor program of study.

Through its rigorous curriculum, the Chinese program prepares students linguistically and intellectually for interaction with China and the Chinese-speaking world. Speaking, reading and translating are stressed at all levels of language instruction. Extracurricular activities—study groups, field trips, films and more—help to integrate the study of the language and the culture.
