Religion, Comparative
Comparative Religion students are globalists, with expertise in analyzing the ways in which billions of people lead and evaluate their lives across the world and within American pluralism. With one foot in the humanities and the other in the social sciences, Comparative Religion is interdisciplinary in nature.

Through their study of world history and its shaping of current events, global comparative analysis and knowledge of ethical standards and practices, Comparative Religion students are equipped to understand multiple perspectives on today’s pressing issues in the U.S. and around the world, and to engage in informed discussion and decision making towards sustainable solutions. The vital contribution of Comparative Religion students’ globalist expertise has been recognized and noted by two recent U.S. Secretaries of State, as well as the National Council for the Social Studies.

Environmental Science
Drew University offers nationally recognized, cross-disciplinary programs of study in the environmental sciences and in environmental studies and sustainability. Our curriculum integrates the sciences with the social sciences, humanities, and the arts, and exemplifies Drew University’s academic and community identity.

Supported by a generous grant from the Andrew Mellon Foundation, our program offers both a BS in Environmental Science and a BA in Environmental Studies and Sustainability, which are unique in their emphasis on our local ecology, cultures, and collaborative practices. The BS in Environmental Science provides students a solid grounding in environmental science, as students take courses across science disciplines with a focus on environmental problems. The BA in Environmental Studies and Sustainability provides students with an understanding of environmental issues from a range of perspectives across disciplines.

Cybersecurity
Our cybersecurity major is interdisciplinary, includes the foundations of software security, and has flexibility through elective offerings so students can opt to choose emphases in software, systems, or interdisciplinary contexts. By the end of the courses in the major, students will be able to identify common vulnerabilities in a software system and propose appropriate countermeasures and mitigation solutions according to best security industry practices. They will also be able to critically evaluate legal and ethical issues in cybersecurity practices and solutions.

Media and Communications
Media and Communications is designed to investigate how media and communication shapes identity, society and democratic processes. Available as a major or minor program of study.
Whether your interest is in media production, film, social media, journalism, advertising, or the impact media messages have on our lives, a degree in media and communications at Drew can help you meet your goals.
Our major prepares students for graduate work or further professional training, as well as for positions in media and communications industries. Courses developed by faculty in more than a dozen disciplines allow students to explore all aspects of media and communication from the theoretical to the practical, including media analysis and documentary production.

Upon successful completion of International Year one and meeting university requirements for undergraduate admission, you may enter your third year of undergraduate study at a number of well-known US universities.
This transition from an INTO program to a university degree program is called progression. You must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA per semester to remain in good academic standing in the Pathway program at Drew.

Mathematics
Mathematics lies at the heart of the liberal arts. Based in abstraction and logical reasoning, mathematics is both a body of knowledge and an elegant and useful way of perceiving our world. Through mathematics, we can distill and describe the otherwise hidden patterns and relations among things. Because of this, mathematics finds ubiquitous application, from the natural and social sciences to the humanities and the arts. Precise abstraction and quantification play an increasingly important role in these diverse areas, and the study of mathematics can provide a foundation for any of them.

The biology major offers students the opportunity to study the biological basis of life from a wide range of perspectives, from ecosystems to organisms to cells and molecules. A critical component of our curriculum is active, inquiry-based learning, including classroom and laboratory experiences that provide not only in-depth exposure to core concepts in biology but also development of skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, data analysis, and scientific writing.

We offer a rigorous scientific curriculum grounded in the liberal arts tradition of making connections with many areas both within and outside of the sciences, as students learn to apply their knowledge to real-world problems. Drew’s chemistry majors share a love of science and apply their passion to many different areas: from biochemistry and medicines to the environment and synthesizing new materials. They use Drew’s state-of-the-art labs to study chemistry, and all students conduct research mentored by a faculty member or RISE Fellow. With our curriculum approved by the American Chemical Society, Drew’s graduates have great success in research, medicine, teaching and industry.

Drew chemistry majors leave knowing how to handle instrumentation they’ll use the first day on the job, such as our time-of-flight mass spectrometer, and our inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer. (And you’re not fighting a bunch of grad students to get time on the machines.)

Art History
Art History majors study the visual arts, past and present, as forms of communication that are shaped by physical, cultural, political, psychological and economic contexts. Our majors are guided through a curriculum that provides historical and geographic breadth in the history of art and an introduction to studio art practice. In small, discussion-based courses our majors master the critical reading, writing and speaking skills that will prepare them to successfully navigate our media-rich world.
The Art History curriculum enhances classroom learning with experiential opportunities. We take full advantage of our proximity to New York City, a global art capital. The New York Semester on Contemporary Art is often described by our majors as a formative experience. Museums and Society, a course conducted partially at regional museums, offers another opportunity for experiential learning. Majors are also encouraged to include credit-bearing arts-related internships as part of their curriculum.

These internships and experiential learning opportunities encourage students to begin thinking about their careers and help them develop valuable skills while at Drew.
