The biology major offers students the opportunity to study the biological basis of life from a wide range of perspectives, from ecosystems to organisms to cells and molecules. A critical component of our curriculum is active, inquiry-based learning, including classroom and laboratory experiences that provide not only in-depth exposure to core concepts in biology but also development of skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, data analysis, and scientific writing.

Upon successful completion of International Year One and meeting university requirements for undergraduate admission, you may enter your third year of undergraduate study at Drew University or at a number of well-known US universities. Environmental Studies and Sustainability
Drew University offers nationally recognized, cross-disciplinary programs of study in the environmental sciences and in environmental studies and sustainability. Our curriculum integrates the sciences with the social sciences, humanities, and the arts, and exemplifies Drew University’s academic and community identity.

Supported by a generous grant from the Andrew Mellon Foundation, our program offers both a BS in Environmental Science and a BA in Environmental Studies and Sustainability, which are unique in their emphasis on our local ecology, cultures, and collaborative practices. The BS in Environmental Science provides students a solid grounding in environmental science, as students take courses across science disciplines with a focus on environmental problems. The BA in Environmental Studies and Sustainability provides students with an understanding of environmental issues from a range of perspectives across disciplines.

German Studies
GERMAN STUDIES majors master a language known for its intellectual and creative culture. The language itself is desired and often required for graduate level study in many fields, such as history, political science music or philosophy. Many of our students find that double-majoring in German opens doors for further education and employment. Available as a major or minor program of study.Drew’s German Studies program offers instruction of the highest quality, emphasizes innovative learning and integrates language, literature and culture. Drew’s proximity to New York City is important because it represents one of the largest concentrations of German culture outside of Europe, and there are regular excursions to Manhattan to experience opera, classical music, art exhibitions and restaurants. On campus, the German Studies program organizes and sponsors speakers, films and concerts. Drew has a chapter of the national German honor society, Delta Phi Alpha. We strongly encourage study abroad and offer opportunities in German-speaking countries.

The study of philosophy is to embark on conceptual exploration. Philosophers seek rational answers to enduring questions about knowledge, reality, value, thought and language. From the time of Socrates to the present day, philosophers have examined fundamental presuppositions of science, morality, governance and art. Philosophy demands close thought. It fosters careful augmentation and clear writing.

Mathematics
Mathematics lies at the heart of the liberal arts. Based in abstraction and logical reasoning, mathematics is both a body of knowledge and an elegant and useful way of perceiving our world. Through mathematics, we can distill and describe the otherwise hidden patterns and relations among things. Because of this, mathematics finds ubiquitous application, from the natural and social sciences to the humanities and the arts. Precise abstraction and quantification play an increasingly important role in these diverse areas, and the study of mathematics can provide a foundation for any of them.

French
The French program at Drew seeks to provide students with all levels of proficiency in the French language, and to offer them in-depth study of French and Francophone literature and culture.
We have a very diversified curriculum in French and Francophone studies that includes popular culture, cinema, business French and literature ranging from the 17th to the 21st centuries. Our instructors are either native speakers or have lived and studied in French-speaking countries for extended periods.
Conducted entirely in French, our language courses make extensive use of a vast array of multimedia tools that foster intensive student participation. Our culture and literature courses are interdisciplinary and focus both on the French and Francophone worlds. For non-French speakers interested in French studies, we also offer several courses in English (French and Francophone Women Writers and Francophone Literatures in Translation).

The accounting program takes a rigorous, integrated, analytic, and critical approach to the study and practice of accounting. The curriculum gives students the tools and skills to analyze domestic and global organizations’ financial health.  We stress the importance of data-informed decisions and ethical considerations across the accounting field.  Our majors graduate prepared to work in a variety of accounting roles across public and private industries, while helping interested students prepare for the CPA exam and a career as a certified accountant.
