Video/Television

The BS in Video/Television gives you a more technical, specialized approach to television and video production. Courses include advanced television technologies, multi-camera production, a media production practicum, as well as a science and computer science requirement.

This program focuses on information systems and information technology. Students will decide on specific technologies that they are most interested in managing: Network and cyber–security (also earn CISCO certification), web and commerce, database and big data, healthcare and enterprise systems (look for our SAP certification coming soon).

This program reflects the need within a broad-based engineering curriculum, for a diversity of offerings reflecting the diversity of careers in the engineering field today. Engineering today encompasses many new technologies, but the core educational requirements remain a thorough grounding in mathematics, physical sciences, engineering sciences and design. The Engineering Science degree then allows students to specialize in one of two options: biomedical or civil. Both options integrate design throughout the curriculum, beginning with the first year, and culminating in a year-long major senior-level design project.

Latin American and Caribbean Studies
Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LACS) offers a wide array of courses on Latin America, the Caribbean, and related diasporas in the United States. This interdisciplinary program features courses from departments throughout the University, and it also offers senior seminars and opportunities for independent coursework and study abroad.

A LACS major or minor would be an asset to any student planning a career in business, law, communications, travel, government, nongovernment agencies, environmental organizations, and other areas.

An INTO Hofstra Graduate Pathway program in Accounting will prepare you to enter your next semester of a master’s degree program at Hofstra University. Upon successful completion of the Pathway program and meeting university requirements for graduate admission, you may enter your next semester of graduate study at Hofstra University. This transition from an INTO Hofstra program to a university degree program is called progression.

Accounting
In most states, candidates for the CPA examination are required to have completed 150 semester hours of course work in order to be eligible for licensure. New York state currently requires 69 s.h. in business, of which 33 must be in accounting. This program, which is offered by the Department of Accounting, Taxation and Legal Studies in Business, should enable students who have taken 39 undergraduate credits in business from an accredited institution, including at least six credits in accounting, to meet this requirement. Students without the equivalent of 39 credits in business are advised to consider the MBA in Professional Accountancy, which will satisfy all educational eligibility requirements for licensure. Students are advised to check with other state boards of accountancy for eligibility requirements outside of New York state.

This is a more intensive program, with more required coursework in fine arts and art history than the BA degree. In addition, students must select a specialization from one of the following areas:

• Ceramics

International Business
Do global enterprises, cultural nuances, and collaboration with clients and colleagues from around the world fascinate you? Hofstra's International Business program integrates the social, cultural, political, legal, ethical, technological, geographic, environmental, and economic factors that play a role when conducting business abroad.

The objectives of the program are twofold: (i) to develop highly qualified professionals capable of adapting with ease to the dynamic field of computing; and (ii) to prepare students interested in pursuing doctoral studies in computer science or related fields. The program provides a strong base in the fundamental areas of computer science, such as algorithms, operating systems and programming languages. In addition, the program offers a large number of electives in important areas such as networking, security, web and mobile application development, and parallel and distributed computing. Students interested in applied computer science may select a concentration either in Web Engineering or Networking and Security. Students may also select a focus in their own particular area of interest by choosing elective courses and/or up to two independent study/research courses under the close supervision of a faculty expert. Faculty fields of expertise include computer vision, artificial intelligence, data mining, software engineering, security, cognitive neuroscience, computational algebra, and logic and programming languages.

Labor Studies
Around the world, from the factory to the office to the internet, today's workplace is changing rapidly. These changes are dramatically affecting not only the ways that we work, but also the basic relationships among workers, between workers and labor unions, and between labor and management. Labor studies offers students a broad background in the multiple perspectives on – and different analytical approaches to – job and pay issues in an international context.

An INTO Hofstra International Year One program in Health Science/Exercise Science will prepare you to enter your next semester of a bachelor’s degree program at Hofstra University. Upon successful completion of the Pathway program and meeting university requirements for undergraduate admission, you may enter your next semester of undergraduate study at Hofstra University.
