Creative Writing and Literature

The creative writing concentration is for serious writers ready to immerse themselves in their craft. Classes are intimate and interactive, led by our faculty's accomplished poets, playwrights, and fiction and nonfiction writers.

Community Health
Community Health majors learn about the biological, social, and behavioral factors affecting public health, and examine the ethical and legal issues in modern-day health care. You’ll study drug and alcohol abuse, the sexual health life cycle, and chronic and communicable diseases, and learn how to assess individual and community health needs so you can plan, implement, and evaluate community health programs.

Urban Ecology
The BA program is appropriate for students whose interests in urban ecology are more focused on the social and political aspects of the field and less on the science. It is also a good choice for students planning to pursue graduate studies in other areas, such as education, geography, global studies, law, political science, or engineering.

This field is growing as sustainability becomes increasingly important to society. Urban ecologists study vegetation, water flow, wildlife, and open spaces in cities to monitor the health of these resources and how they respond to pollution, development, and other pressures. We monitor nutrient flow from lawns and industry into oceans; help design buildings and large developments to make them more sustainable and appealing; run nature and interpretive programs ranging from very small to citywide; study the effects of invasive species; and explore the positive impacts that green spaces have on biodiversity and human health.

As a student at the Frank G. Zarb School of Business, our courses will help you develop skills to work in global markets and economies, strategic management, marketing, and more.

Take classes in International Financial Management, International Marketing, and International Strategic Management to learn about business in different parts of the world and take electives such as Law in the Global Economy.

The Master of Arts (MA) in Industrial/Organizational Psychology at Hofstra University prepares you for career advancement across a number of fields dealing with workplace productivity and behaviors, including human resources, training, management, consulting, coaching, and organization development. Research design, statistics, and psychology provide the foundation for advanced study in selection training, performance appraisal, worker motivation, and organization development. At Hofstra you will also gain valuable hands-on experience through internships at business and public agencies. Full-time students finish in as little as two years.

Applied Physics - Engineering

The BS in Applied Physics allows students to combine the BS in Physics with a concentration in biochemistry, computer science, or engineering. The curriculum includes electives in humanities and social science to give the student a general background to supplement training as a specialist.

Fine Arts

This degree is for students who may be interested in a double major in areas such as education, marketing, computer science, or film. Students have the option of a general fine arts degree, or a specialization in design, painting, or sculpture-industrial design.

Biochemistry prepares students to pursue advanced degrees in forensic science, biochemistry, chemistry, pharmacology, neuroscience, and molecular biology, as well as for medical, dental, and pharmacy schools, and physician assistant programs.

Video, Television, and Film

The BS in Video, Television, and Film adds a film component to the video/television degree program, with courses such as advanced theatrical production, screenwriting, and cinematography; this degree also requires a media production practicum and coursework in science and computer science.
