Geographic Information Systems
The BS in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is better suited for students with a mind for processing data. It offers technical-oriented, professional-grade training in GIS and geospatial technologies, and requires significant math, statistics, and natural science coursework. Unlike the major in geography, the GIS degree requires a minor or a second major in an area outside geography. Some popular choices among our GIS students include civil engineering, biology, journalism, and political science.

Early Childhood/Childhood Education

Students in this program combine the early childhood/childhood education major with an arts or science co-major from either Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences or the DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science.

We recommend you choose a co-major in an academic discipline that could also be taught on the secondary level. If you major in an area like English, History, Mathematics, Foreign Language, or one of the sciences, you may be able to apply directly to New York state for additional certification in secondary education in that subject area.

Students apply to this program in their sophomore year and begin the program in their junior year.

With the Master of Arts (MA) in Journalism at Hofstra University, you will develop advanced, multimedia story-telling skills and build a wide-ranging professional network through internships at the nation’s top media companies. Hofstra's award-winning faculty will help you establish a solid foundation of reporting skills and build a portfolio of work across all media – digital, broadcast, and print - through on-campus media outlets, including The Hofstra Chronicle, WRHU Radio, and the online news site, The Long Island Advocate. Students have the option to add a specialization in either Sports and Entertainment Journalism or Community and Investigative Journalism. No GRE is required, and scholarships are available for qualified candidates.

Computer Engineering

Computer Engineering students at Hofstra learn to design hardware and software for the computing devices and systems that serve as the foundation for nearly every critical institution in society. Indeed, few degrees are more immediately valuable in today’s workplace. Our graduates move into a variety of well-paying jobs, from software engineering, operating systems development, and the design of hardware systems and complex networks, to creating and managing mobile devices, sensing and control systems, biomedical devices, and more.
