Biomedical Option

Bioengineering is designed to bridge the gap between the life sciences and physical sciences by applying engineering concepts, methods, and techniques to biology and medicine. An understanding of fundamental physiological processes using engineering methodology requires a broad background in basic engineering, sciences, and mathematics. Biomedical engineers may design instruments, devices, and software; bring together knowledge from many technical sources to develop new procedures; or conduct research needed to solve clinical problems. In industry, they may create products that require an in-depth understanding of living systems and technology. They frequently work in research and development or in quality assurance.

Take your place as an innovative leader in sports and recreation through the Master of Science in Sports Science at Hofstra University. Develop a design and implementation skill set for creating training programs that enhance athletic performance and reduce injuries.

The Strength and Conditioning concentration is designed to prepare students to work with athletes as strength and conditioning coaches in college, professional, private, and secondary school settings. Students will develop the skills necessary to design and implement population-specific training programs that enhance athletic performance and reduce injury risk. The foundation of course work is in areas of bio-mechanics, exercise physiology, performance testing, periodization, program design, and sport nutrition. In addition, all students will have opportunities to complete various fieldwork experiences.

The Master of Arts (MA) in Industrial/Organizational Psychology at Hofstra University prepares you for career advancement across a number of fields dealing with workplace productivity and behaviors, including human resources, training, management, consulting, coaching, and organization development. Research design, statistics, and psychology provide the foundation for advanced study in selection training, performance appraisal, worker motivation, and organization development. At Hofstra you will also gain valuable hands-on experience through internships at business and public agencies. Full-time students finish in as little as two years.

Choose from Cell and Molecular Biology; Ecology and Evolution; Marine Biology; Pre-Medical, Pre-Dental and Pre-Veterinary Studies; and Secondary Education.

Video/Television

The BS in Video/Television gives you a more technical, specialized approach to television and video production. Courses include advanced television technologies, multi-camera production, a media production practicum, as well as a science and computer science requirement.

Linguistics
Required courses for a degree in linguistics include Introduction to Linguistics; Phonetics and Phonology (the study of speech sounds and patterns of sound in different languages); Morphology and Syntax (the analysis of sentence structure and grammar); and a course in sociolinguistics, which explores how language is used in society.
