The BACHELOR OF ARTS IN COMPUTER SCIENCE gives students a solid foundation in computer science. Fewer required courses in the major and more electives allow students to pursue minors and a second major in other departments. Students may pursue a general track or an individual track that has a sequence of two independent study courses specially designed in collaboration with a faculty member.

Networking and Cybersecurity

The concentration in Networking and Cybersecurity is aimed at educating students in the growing field of cybersecurity.  Security of data and computer systems is one of the most important topics in today's online world. Any application or system must have ways to prevent and protect from cyber attacks, to allow secure access and protection of data stored in distributed locations accessible online. Courses in this concentration offer a hands-on approach to learning networking, security and systems programming. All courses include a significant experiential component.

The Bachelor of Arts in Audio/Radio Production and Studies combines courses in the history and theory of the audio medium with a broad range of production-oriented courses that put an emphasis on the development, creation, marketing, and distribution of a wide variety of audio content.

Creative Writing and Literature

The creative writing concentration is for serious writers ready to immerse themselves in their craft. Classes are intimate and interactive, led by our faculty's accomplished poets, playwrights, and fiction and nonfiction writers.

Do you see yourself developing the next big app or mobile game, or designing software that helps solve real-world challenges? Study the computer technology and systems that touch virtually all aspects of modern society, from business and health care to banking, government, and communication.

Lay a strong foundation in programming and application development, algorithms, computer architecture, operating systems, and software engineering, and choose from three tracks of study: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Cybersecurity.

Gaming and Graphics

The Concentration in Gaming and Graphics is aimed at educating students in the design and development of video games and game engines.  This is a very exciting and growing industry. Video games have permeated all segments of population and industry from entertainment to educational. All courses in this concentration include a significant experiential component.

Jazz & Commercial Music
This concentration provides a musical environment that helps prepare students for a performing career in today’s diverse world of professional music. It builds knowledge of composition, arranging, improvisation, technology, history, and business.

Children's and YA Literature

The department’s newest concentration draws on the resources and faculty expertise within the English Department and also reaches out to other areas of the University, including child psychology and literacy studies.

Pursue your Master of Health Administration at Hofstra University in-person or online and study with leading faculty in the field of healthcare, including executives in some of New York’s leading health services organizations. You can enroll full or part-time and decide if you want to take your classes on campus or take advantage of our immersive, asynchronous online option. You can also choose from two optional academic tracks: Operations Management and Long-Term Care Administration. Upon successful completion of the Pathway program and meeting university requirements for undergraduate admission, you may enter your next semester of undergraduate study at Hofstra University. This transition from an INTO Hofstra program to a university degree program is called progression.

Biology - Ecology and Evolution

The Bachelor of Science is appropriate for students planning graduate studies in biology and professional pursuits in the fields of biology, medicine or higher education. The BS has an options requirement – areas of specialized learning. Choose from Cell and Molecular Biology; Ecology and Evolution; Marine Biology; Pre-Medical, Pre-Dental and Pre-Veterinary Studies; and Secondary Education.

This degree is for students who may be interested in a double major in areas such as education, marketing, computer science, or film. Students have the option of a general fine arts degree, or a specialization in design, painting, or sculpture-industrial design.

Video, Television, and Business

The BS in Video, Television, and Business combines an in-depth overview of television production and industry standards with coursework in legal issues, contracts, marketing, and management. If you are interested in working on the business side of media and entertainment, this program will give you the specialized skills and acumen you need to make killer deals.
