Labor Studies
Around the world, from the factory to the office to the internet, today's workplace is changing rapidly. These changes are dramatically affecting not only the ways that we work, but also the basic relationships among workers, between workers and labor unions, and between labor and management. Labor studies offers students a broad background in the multiple perspectives on – and different analytical approaches to – job and pay issues in an international context.

Learn how to question and analyze the social, legal, political, historical, and economic factors that influence the media industry -- and apply this in-depth knowledge to a variety of career paths or advance study in fields such as law, management, politics, and education.

Choose from courses such as:

• Media and the Law: Examine law and court rulings as they pertain to censorship issues, intellectual property, privacy rights, and social media content
• Celebrity, Culture and Media: Critically analyze stardom and celebrity-making media industries
• Privacy and Public Life in a Media Age: Explore issues of individual privacy, public life and civic engagement, online privacy, the surveillance environment, and more.

As a student at the Frank G. Zarb School of Business, our courses will help you develop skills to work in global markets and economies, strategic management, marketing, and more.

Take classes in International Financial Management, International Marketing, and International Strategic Management to learn about business in different parts of the world and take electives such as Law in the Global Economy.

Health Informatics
Hofstra's master in Health Informatics is designed to address the foundational concepts of information technology systems in healthcare. Graduates of the healthcare informatics program will be familiar with current health information systems and technologies and will be prepared to analyze, design and manage evolving health information systems for a wide variety of clinical, administrative and research purposes.

Components of the program include:

• Advanced training to prepare students to lead IT-based innovation and transform healthcare delivery, management, and planning.
• Small class sizes.
• Applied experience culminating in a six-credit practicum where students are assigned to rotations at affiliated health information system departments within various health systems such as Northwell Health to obtain hands-on training, experience, and exposure in all disciplines of healthcare informatics.

The Master of Science in Engineering Management (MSEM) gives practicing engineers the competitive edge necessary to advance to management positions in leading engineering and technology firms nationwide.

Graduates of the program will have the skills necessary to pursue successful careers as engineering managers, project engineers, and product engineers in government agencies and tech-based manufacturing and service firms.

The BA program looks at sustainability through a liberal arts lens. This degree has more freedom to choose electives than the BS program since there are less science and math courses required. It is designed for students who aspire to work in public policy, law, urban planning, community development or business.

American Studies

American Studies at Hofstra University is an interdisciplinary program for undergraduates looking forward to graduate work and careers in public service, law, higher education, and other fields associated with the social sciences and humanities.

The American Studies program is intensive and extensive; intensive because America is the focus of the program, and extensive because students become proficient in many academic disciplines. Courses in English, history, philosophy, and political science are all integral to the program

Political Science

The major concentration enables students to establish a strong base of specialized knowledge in one of the areas of study represented in the Zarb School of Business. This complements the skills in the various functional areas of business, as well as the professional leadership and management orientation.
