Biomedical Option

Bioengineering is designed to bridge the gap between the life sciences and physical sciences by applying engineering concepts, methods, and techniques to biology and medicine. An understanding of fundamental physiological processes using engineering methodology requires a broad background in basic engineering, sciences, and mathematics. Biomedical engineers may design instruments, devices, and software; bring together knowledge from many technical sources to develop new procedures; or conduct research needed to solve clinical problems. In industry, they may create products that require an in-depth understanding of living systems and technology. They frequently work in research and development or in quality assurance.

American Studies

American Studies at Hofstra University is an interdisciplinary program for undergraduates looking forward to graduate work and careers in public service, law, higher education, and other fields associated with the social sciences and humanities.

The American Studies program is intensive and extensive; intensive because America is the focus of the program, and extensive because students become proficient in many academic disciplines. Courses in English, history, philosophy, and political science are all integral to the program

This degree provides students with a broad understanding of the traditional and modern civilizations of East Asia and Southeast Asia. As an Asian Studies major, you will choose a core of four courses, concentrating on either traditional or contemporary Asia, and also take a seminar.

Why Asian Studies?
Students in the Asian Studies program learn about the traditional and modern societies of Asia through teaching, research, and service. They graduate equipped to enter a variety of career paths.

The program fosters understanding of the cultural, social, and political relationships amongst the various countries in Asia, North America, and Europe. Through additional outreach activities, students also learn about the connections between Asia, the growing Asian American communities in the New York metropolitan area, and the University.

The new BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN COMPUTER SCIENCE AND CYBERSECURITY program is designed to produce graduates who are fully qualified as computer software and hardware developers, while at the same time, able to serve as information security officers, penetration testers, and network administrators. The program provides a solid foundation of computer science, emphasizing specifically the expertise in computing systems. The arrival of the Big Data Era has created a significant demand for people who are well-educated in business analytics. The Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics is well-positioned to deliver this program with many faculty members who are scholars and/or have experience in this area.

The program will prepare students for business analytics careers in industry, government, health care and nonprofit organizations. This program enhances the students’ critical thinking, analytical skills, and practical experience in this field.
