Labor Studies
Around the world, from the factory to the office to the internet, today's workplace is changing rapidly. These changes are dramatically affecting not only the ways that we work, but also the basic relationships among workers, between workers and labor unions, and between labor and management. Labor studies offers students a broad background in the multiple perspectives on – and different analytical approaches to – job and pay issues in an international context.

Economics
As an economics student at Hofstra, you will learn about every level of economics – from how people go about the everyday business of making a living, to how our shared actions and attitudes affect the livelihoods of every person on the planet. You will be exposed to a wide variety of ideas about how corporate, regional, national, and international economies grow and change over time. And you will gain insights into how sound economic policies influence and inform nearly every aspect of society.

The Bachelor of Arts is designed to give students a comprehensive understanding of biology and a strong liberal arts foundation. It is ideal for students planning to pursue graduate studies in another area, such as business, K-12 education, engineering or law.

Students may major in biology or urban ecology, and specializations are available in pre-health, cell/molecular biology, as well as marine and freshwater biology, ecology, secondary education and conservation biology, among others.

Fine Arts

This degree is for students who may be interested in a double major in areas such as education, marketing, computer science, or film. Students have the option of a general fine arts degree, or a specialization in design, painting, or sculpture-industrial design.

An INTO Hofstra International Year One program in Natural Science will prepare you to enter your next semester of a bachelor’s degree program at Hofstra University. Upon successful completion of the Pathway program and meeting university requirements for undergraduate admission, you may enter your next semester of undergraduate study at Hofstra University. This transition from an INTO Hofstra program to a university degree program is called progression.

Biology - Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental/Pre-Veterinary

The Bachelor of Science is appropriate for students planning graduate studies in biology and professional pursuits in the fields of biology, medicine or higher education. The BS has an options requirement – areas of specialized learning. Choose from Cell and Molecular Biology; Ecology and Evolution; Marine Biology; Pre-Medical, Pre-Dental and Pre-Veterinary Studies; and Secondary Education.

Have a passion for helping people live longer, better lives? The field of health science gives you a deep understanding of the evolving challenges of modern health care, and provides a strong foundation for advanced  degrees in careers such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary sciences, physical therapy, and physician assistant studies.

In addition to biology, chemistry, and other natural sciences, your courses will focus on wellness, health promotion, and disease prevention, while examining the bioethical and legal issues facing the global health industry. Explore issues of interest to you through dozens of elective courses on topics such as aging and long-term care, violence in children/families, mental health, environmental health, and grant funding and proposal development. You will also complete a clinical internship.

An INTO Hofstra Graduate Pathway program in Public Relations will prepare you to enter your next semester of a master’s degree program at Hofstra University. Upon successful completion of the Pathway program and meeting university requirements for graduate admission, you may enter your next semester of graduate study at Hofstra University. This transition from an INTO Hofstra program to a university degree program is called progression.

Public Relations
Make your mark as a strategic communications leader, one of the most critical roles of any organization, with the Master of Arts (MA) in Public Relations at Hofstra University. Our program emphasizes critical thinking and problem-solving, exceptional writing skills, and proficiency in digital platforms necessary for your success as a public relations professional.

The BA in Drama is ideal for students who want a well-rounded education in all aspects of theater, onstage or behind the scenes. With the BA, you have the freedom to double major, pursue academic-year internships, or take advantage of exciting study abroad programs.

This degree prepares students for positions as high school educators, corporate chemistry reps (working with chemical testing and supplying companies), and as lab technicians. The program also serves as a foundation for a variety of graduate and doctoral programs.

The Department of Chemistry's program for the BA major in chemistry is not accredited by the American Chemical Society. This program is designed for students who need a strong foundation in chemistry but who do not anticipate working in a laboratory environment.
