Women's Studies
The Women's Studies Program draws upon faculty with expertise in women’s and gender issues in the humanities, social sciences, and the arts. Courses in the program provide interdisciplinary and cross-cultural perspectives on gender roles, allow students to examine the social, political, economic, intellectual, and cultural contributions of women past and present, and to study women’s and men’s lives in the context of changing gender roles.

Take your place as an innovative leader in sports and recreation through the Master of Science in Sports Science at Hofstra University. Develop a design and implementation skill set for creating training programs that enhance athletic performance and reduce injuries.

The Exercise Physiology concentration is designed to prepare students to work as an exercise instructor (for healthy, athletic, and special populations), cardiopulmonary rehabilitation professional, or within management in the health, medical, and fitness industries. Students will study the acute and chronic physiological responses and adaptations resulting from physical activity. The foundation of course work is in areas of exercise physiology, skeletal muscle physiology, laboratory techniques, exercise prescription for special populations, and exercise techniques.

Japanese Studies

The BA major in Japanese provides students with a solid foundation of Japanese language skills, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening comprehension.  In addition, through carefully selected foundational and elective courses, students gain an understanding of Japan’s literary and cultural traditions and history.  Students are encouraged to augment their study of Japanese at Hofstra with study abroad.

Students in the BA in Economics program gain a deeper understanding of economic theories and their effect on society, often as a precursor to a government, academic, or consulting career. The BA is great preparation for graduate study in law or business administration.

English - Publishing Studies and Literature
One of the nation's premier programs in this field. The publishing studies faculty is comprised of active professionals who teach classes in editing, book design, industry-standard publishing software systems, and marketing.

Biomedical Option

Bioengineering is designed to bridge the gap between the life sciences and physical sciences by applying engineering concepts, methods, and techniques to biology and medicine. An understanding of fundamental physiological processes using engineering methodology requires a broad background in basic engineering, sciences, and mathematics. Biomedical engineers may design instruments, devices, and software; bring together knowledge from many technical sources to develop new procedures; or conduct research needed to solve clinical problems. In industry, they may create products that require an in-depth understanding of living systems and technology. They frequently work in research and development or in quality assurance.

Finance

The major concentration enables students to establish a strong base of specialized knowledge in one of the areas of study represented in the Zarb School of Business. This complements the skills in the various functional areas of business, as well as the professional leadership and management orientation.

In the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering program, students can work toward a career in electrical engineering or opt for a computer engineering focus. You will first build a foundation in universal engineering theories, mathematics, and the physical sciences before moving on to more specialized courses. This program is ABET-accredited.

Forensic Linguistics, the scientific study of language, is a vital investigative tool for law enforcement and intelligence experts in the United States and around the world. The Master of Arts (MA) in Forensic Linguistics, the first program of its kind in the Western Hemisphere, will teach you how to use a linguist’s core tools, including phonetics, syntax, semantics and sociolinguistics, to analyze language in legal and other real-world settings. Learn from brilliant scholars who have worked with the FBI and consulted on an extensive array of criminal cases and counterterrorism efforts. Our program combines a broad-based academic experience with applied workshops and internship opportunities working on ongoing cases.
