Information Systems - Geographic Information Systems
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a master’s sequence in Information Systems. The degree is a cross-disciplinary sequence between the School of Information Technology and the Institute for Geospatial Analysis and Mapping, located in the Department of Geography, Geology, and the Environment.

GIS at Illinois State gives you the essential knowledge to use current GIS applications and develop future systems. The program teaches theory and provides practical experience using GIS systems. Students perform statistical analysis and interpretation by mapping spatial coordinates onto multiple datasets. The program also covers geographical data and the procedures for capturing, storing, querying, and displaying it.

The Wonsook Kim School of Art offers a comprehensive list of sequence options for a student interested in Studio Arts. The following are offered as areas of specialization: Ceramics, Drawing, Expanded Media, Glass, Printmaking, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Video, and Wood / Metal Design.

The Communication Studies - Organizational and Leadership Communication sequence enhances communication knowledge, understanding, and skills for enhancing organizational relationships. The goal of this sequence is to equip the student to successfully use communication as a tool to enhance organizational outcomes. Managerial Economics goes beyond the limits of traditional economics and business majors, blending a thorough grounding in economic theory with business knowledge and applications. Students in the Managerial Economics sequence receive in-depth training to economics and quantitative methods, problem-solving strategies, critical thinking and effective communication skills.

History-Social Sciences Teacher Education
After you finish our program, you will be ready to teach history and other social sciences at the high school level, including AP courses. You will have had real teaching experiences: observations, micro-teaching and finishing it off with a semester of student teaching. You’ll learn more about the topics you’ve always loved – and how to teach them.

Recreation and Park Administration - Therapeutic Recreation
Therapeutic recreation is a human service profession. Professionals typically work in a community or clinical setting. Clients include people who have a disability, injury, illness or other health condition. Using play and other activities, therapists create a healthy physical and social environment.

Students in this major use theory in the classroom and the real world by completing two internships. The major also offers opportunities to attend conferences, participate in clubs, and study abroad. These activities help students develop a professional network.

Faculty in therapeutic recreation have awards for teaching, research, and service. They also conduct and publish research as well as write industry-leading textbooks.
