The Financial Economics sequence provides students training in the financial theory of the firm, financial markets and institutions to complement their training in applied economics analysis. It is designed for students who have an interest in employment opportunities in the financial sector such as investment and commercial banks, economic and financial asset management companies, and consulting firms, or who are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. degree. This is a STEM designated degree, which focuses on the systematic study of mathematical and statistical analysis of economic phenomena and problems. STEM designated degree programs offer additional benefits for students, including potential grant funded opportunities and, for international students, extended OPT study options.

Engineering Technology
Engineering Technology at Illinois State University is an applied program that allows students to explore the integration of engineering principles and modern technology. The courses in Engineering Technology focus on the management of people, processes, and materials through hands-on, application-oriented activities. As a result, our students are well equipped to become technically-oriented managerial professionals and leaders in business and industry.

The Interior Design major prepares students to design innovative, functional, supportive and responsible interior environments that positively impact the quality of life. The curriculum develops students' skills and knowledge in color and design, drafting, space planning, building and interior systems, materials and finishes, historical interiors, building and barrier-free codes, and Auto-CAD. The needs of special populations and the mandates that regulate the field of interior design are emphasized.

Illinois State's Interior Design program is accredited by the Council of Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). This prepares students for entry-level Interior Design practice, for advanced study, and to apply for membership in professional Interior Design organizations. The BS or BA in Interior Design granted by Illinois State University meets the educational requirement for eligibility to sit for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification Examination (NCIDQ Exam).

Hydrogeology at Illinois State knows the important role hydrogeologists play in the environment. That’s why our program focuses only on the field of hydrogeology. This ensures you get all the tools you need for a successful career in the private sector, government, or academia.

You’ll conduct research that makes a real, positive impact. Our broad view of hydrogeology means you can explore your interests in the hydrologic cycle. Some recent research projects include:

Our core curriculum lets you claim the title of hydrogeologist when you graduate. You’ll be able to work in a variety of areas all over the world, such as the private sector, government, or higher education.

The Individualized sequence of the Interdisciplinary Studies major allows a student, with the help of a faculty sponsor, to design a specialized program of study not otherwise offered by the University. This is intended for the student whose specific interests cannot be accommodated within existing programs.

Some topics chosen by students include Classical Civilization, Three Dimensional Design, and International Public Relations. The Individualized sequence is typically a second or auxiliary major but may be proposed as a primary major.

Music Therapy
The Music Therapy sequence provides academic content and clinical experiences related to competencies outlined by the American Music Therapy Association.

Students who complete the Music Therapy degree are eligible to sit for the national board certification exam to obtain the credential MT-BC (Music Therapist - Board Certified), which is necessary for professional practice.

Public Service is a 32-hour sequence of the master's degree in Political Science. The Public Service sequence is designed for students interested in employment in the public sector, particularly at the state and local level.

Master of Music in Performance students are afforded intensive applied study with a professionally accomplished artist-teacher. Performance degrees are offered in all orchestral and band instruments, as well as in piano, guitar, and voice.

    The MM in Performance prepares you for a career in:

• Opera houses
• Teaching at the college level

    The MM in Performance curriculum includes:

• Applied music

Biology - Conservation Biology
Biological Sciences majors selecting this sequence will receive broad training in Conservation Biology. This sequence is designed for students seeking careers in the conservation of natural ecosystems and their organisms (all levels of biodiversity).

The coursework will also prepare students for graduate studies in Conservation Biology, and for internships and entry-level positions in conservation-oriented non-governmental organizations, state and federal governmental organizations, and environmental consulting firms.

Communication Studies - Interpersonal
The Communication Studies - Interpersonal sequence focuses on communication interaction between individuals and the impact each has on the other. The program provides a grounding in the power of communication to affect outcomes and relations across a variety of settings. Often, coursework may examine relationship development in families, social settings, and work.

Typical careers include social services, human relations, interpersonal consulting, affirmative actions, sales, and counseling.
