Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

The Didactic Program in Dietetics provides the first step for students planning to become a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) by preparing graduates for the required ACEND accredited dietetic internship.

This graduate sequence provides students with a broad-based education in Conservation Biology by combining education in basic research and classes in ecology, evolutionary genetics, and systematics.

The required classes are targeted to address applied problems such as preservation of biodiversity and genetic diversity, prairie restoration, and the effects of anthropogenic environmental change. The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences offers a Master of Science or Master of Arts degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with a sequence in Interior Design. The master’s program expands knowledge on creativity, sustainability, health and wellness, and evidence-based design.

Studio Arts Ceramics
The Wonsook Kim School of Art offers a comprehensive list of sequence options for a student interested in Studio Arts. The following are offered as areas of specialization: Ceramics, Drawing, Expanded Media, Glass, Printmaking, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Video, and Wood / Metal Design.

Following a first year foundations curriculum, students can choose a sequence within an individual studio. Within each sequence, faculty are actively engaged in introducing students to various technical skills and ideas specific to that discipline. Legal Studies
Students in Legal Studies, a major offered by the Department of Politics and Government, have great opportunities for learning and growth, both as individuals and within  the paralegal field as a whole. The Department of Politics and Government provides a variety of resources for Legal Studies majors including internship opportunities, small class sizes, as well as full-time faculty or experienced practitioners teaching all levels of coursework.

The Legal Studies curriculum is designed to provide specialized knowledge and skills to prepare students for employment as a paralegal. Paralegals may not provide legal services directly to the public, except as permitted by law. Students preparing for law school should consult with the pre-law advisor to determine which courses are appropriate for them.

The anthropology master's program at Illinois State is flexible and individualized. With only two required courses, you can work with an advisor to design a curriculum that engages you and helps you achieve your goals.

Kinesiology and Recreation - Exercise Physiology
Exercise Physiology studies how the body's structures and functions alter during exercise.

Professionals use exercise physiology principles when training clients to maximize their physical potential. Exercise Physiology students study these principles and apply them to how people acquire, use, and improve motor skill. Students also learn to use physical activity to educate individuals in health, fitness, and sport settings. At the end of the program, students may choose between completing a thesis or independent study.
