Accounting - Business Information Systems
The Accounting - Business Information Systems sequence is designed to prepare students for entry level accounting positions requiring significant training in business information systems. This preparation is particularly valuable in accounting consulting positions, certain auditing positions, and in many progressive industrial positions.

International Business
Illinois State University is the only public university in Illinois offering a major in International Business. If you have studied a foreign language in high school, if you want to major in business, if you are interested in the international expansion of business, then this is the right major for you!

International Business is an interdisciplinary program, combining core courses in general business and foreign languages with advanced courses in international business. Students choose a specific concentration from marketing, finance, insurance, management, business information systems, or accountancy. Advanced courses in business look not only at international activities in the different majors, but also at the way cultures affect business and the legal environments of different countries.

FDM courses include Textiles, Fashion Trend and Industry Analysis, Advanced Textiles, Clothing and Behavior, Economics of Fashion, Apparel Product Development, Apparel Product Analysis, and Fashion Promotion. Within the FDM program, you can select from two different emphasis options:

• The Fashion Merchandising option which includes additional courses in retail buying
• The Fashion Design and Product Development option which includes additional courses in draping and flat pattern making

As an FDM student, you'll also have the opportunity to participate in study tours both inside and outside the United States. Students have visited corporate offices and manufacturers from New York City to California, as well as in Europe and Asia.

Economics - General Economics
Economics is the study of how to critically evaluate problems and make well-reasoned decisions. As such, the Economics major is particularly well suited to prepare students for the career challenges in the 21st century by helping them develop important skills, including the ability to apply a general framework of analysis for solving real-world problems, conduct mathematical and statistical analysis, work with data to address specific issues, and effectively communicate, in written and oral form, with others.

A student can earn either a B.S. or a B.A. degree in Economics. The major offers students the flexibility to select a set of courses that simultaneously satisfy the requirements of the major while focusing on a specific area such as business or pre-law. The curriculum is highlighted by a senior project required of Economics majors that gives each student an opportunity to work with an individual faculty member on a research project selected by the student.

The requirement of 33 hours allows the flexibility to consider a second major or minor as a way to expand your career possibilities and distinguish yourself from your peers. The list of majors students most frequently combine with Economics includes Business Administration, Mathematics, Computer Science, and Political Science.

Hydrogeology at Illinois State knows the important role hydrogeologists play in the environment. That’s why our program focuses only on the field of hydrogeology. This ensures you get all the tools you need for a successful career in the private sector, government, or academia.

You’ll conduct research that makes a real, positive impact. Our broad view of hydrogeology means you can explore your interests in the hydrologic cycle. Some recent research projects include:

• Surface water-groundwater interaction
• Nutrient cycling
• Impacts of humans and global change in hydrologic and water resource systems
• Flow in karst systems
• Sediment transport

Our core curriculum lets you claim the title of hydrogeologist when you graduate. You’ll be able to work in a variety of areas all over the world, such as the private sector, government, or higher education.

Biology - Molecular and Cellular Biology
The bachelor’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology provides a solid foundation in the life sciences for students seeking careers in medicine, government, or entry-level positions in biotechnology as well as the pharmaceutical industry.

The degree also serves as a basis for graduate studies in biology. While the degree may satisfy many requirements for professional and graduate programs, it is important to consult the admission requirements for a particular program as early as possible. Additional coursework may be taken as electives to support later postgraduate work.

Engineering Technology
Engineering Technology at Illinois State University is an applied program that allows students to explore the integration of engineering principles and modern technology. The courses in Engineering Technology focus on the management of people, processes, and materials through hands-on, application-oriented activities. As a result, our students are well equipped to become technically-oriented managerial professionals and leaders in business and industry.

The Financial Economics sequence provides students training in the financial theory of the firm, financial markets and institutions to complement their training in applied economics analysis. It is designed for students who have an interest in employment opportunities in the financial sector such as investment and commercial banks, economic and financial asset management companies, and consulting firms, or who are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. degree.

The Mathematics sequence in the Mathematics major first provides students with a strong foundation in Mathematics and then gives students the flexibility to explore various aspects of the discipline.

There is also the flexibility within the Mathematics major for a student to pursue a minor in a related field of study. Such a program can prepare students for jobs in industry and government as well as prepare students for graduate study in Mathematics.

Human Development and Family Science
The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences offers a Master of Science or Master of Arts degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with a sequence in Human Development and Family Science. This sequence is most appropriate for individuals interested in careers in human development and/or family science who have a human/child development and family science degree or related undergraduate degrees such as psychology, sociology, and social work.

Career opportunities for graduates are in the areas of parent and family education agencies, non-profit organizations, community outreach services, residential- and child-care facilities, and other related areas. Positions could include working as case managers, program coordinators, family/parent educators, and administrators.
