The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences offers a Master of Science or Master of Arts degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with a sequence in Fashion Design and Merchandising (FDM). The sequence is designed for professionals seeking advanced study in this area.

This sequence option is most appropriate for individuals interested in careers in the fashion design and merchandising field who have related degrees such as business, especially marketing, public relations, art, and design.

Family and Consumer Sciences graduate students with an interest in the FDM field can choose among seventeen courses that could be included as part of their graduate degree program. The courses offered are in two concentration areas; Fashion Merchandising and Fashion Product Design and Production.

Geography gives us an understanding of the world. It demonstrates how the physical and human systems on our planet work and connect to maintain life.

Geographers have specific and valuable skills to tackle important societal challenges facing our planet. Climate change, population pressures, geopolitical conflicts, and natural disasters all need the expertise of geographers.

Geographers are citizens of the world. When solving problems, they value diversity, inclusiveness, and international perspectives.

Typical careers for a geographer include:

• Cartographer
• Planner (urban and environmental)
• Location Analyst
• Geographic Information Systems Specialist

Illinois State University is one of only a handful of institutions that offer a terminal M.S. degree in Chemistry. Our graduate program is aimed exclusively at the master's level, and so all of the students in the graduate program enter seeking the master's degree.

The Applied Community and Economic Development (ACED) sequence is an interdisciplinary program that enables those who are passionate about social change through service to take their careers to the next level. The sequence is designed for returned Peace Corps Volunteers and students with other development experiences (e.g., AmeriCorps, nonprofit work).

Marketing - Integrated Marketing Communication
The Integrated Marketing Communication sequence allows students to focus on the coordination of all aspects of marketing communication such as advertising, sales promotion, public relations, and direct marketing, in an effort to provide a consistent message to consumers. Students complete three required courses in marketing and two required and three elective courses in integrated marketing communication.

Not only are a significant number of marketing students interested in the IMC fields, the area offers a wide range of professional opportunities, with strong growth projections. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) predicts 12 percent job growth for marketing managers from 2012 to 2022. The median salary for marketing managers was $127,130 in 2014, according to the BLS.

Biology - Molecular and Cellular Biology
The bachelor’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology provides a solid foundation in the life sciences for students seeking careers in medicine, government, or entry-level positions in biotechnology as well as the pharmaceutical industry.

The degree also serves as a basis for graduate studies in biology. While the degree may satisfy many requirements for professional and graduate programs, it is important to consult the admission requirements for a particular program as early as possible. Additional coursework may be taken as electives to support later postgraduate work.

The Master of Music in String Pedagogy prepares students to become highly qualified and knowledgeable string teachers who will be prepared to pursue a career in teaching strings in a variety of settings or pursue a doctoral degree.

 The curriculum includes:

• String pedagogy and literature
• Professional practice
• Applied lessons on primary and secondary stringed instruments)
• And core music courses, i.e. music theory, history, and research methods
• Electives - chamber music, non-degree recitals, etc.

 String Pedagogy students will gain critical professional practice experience working in the nationally recognized ISU String Project (large group, small group, and private lessons) as well as through teaching the MusicScores! curriculum at local Head Start preschool sites.
