Geology

Professional geologists study earth processes like landslides, earthquakes, and rock formation. Understanding these activities is essential to sustaining life on Earth.

The Geology program at Illinois State gives you a strong foundation and awareness of these processes. Our traditional approach to teaching prepares you for graduate school or a career. Managerial Economics goes beyond the limits of traditional economics and business majors, blending a thorough grounding in economic theory with business knowledge and applications. Students in the Managerial Economics sequence receive in-depth training to economics and quantitative methods, problem-solving strategies, critical thinking and effective communication skills.

Students who study Economics will learn to use ideas developed by economists and to investigate current issues both in the public and private sectors.

Music Composition

Illinois State University composition majors receive reading sessions from nationally prominent ensembles such as Ensemble Dal Niente, Fulcrum Point, and ensemble mise-en. Our annual Red Note New Music Festival brings in prestigious composers such as Pulitzer Prize winners Steven Stucky and William Bolcom to campus.

Agriculture - Agribusiness
The Agribusiness sequence includes courses in agriculture, agribusiness, economics and business. Graduates find career opportunities in sales, finance, grain and livestock marketing, farm management, food industry management and the commodity futures industry. Studio Arts Ceramics
The Wonsook Kim School of Art offers a comprehensive list of sequence options for a student interested in Studio Arts. The following are offered as areas of specialization: Ceramics, Drawing, Expanded Media, Glass, Printmaking, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Video, and Wood / Metal Design.

Following a first year foundations curriculum, students can choose a sequence within an individual studio. Within each sequence, faculty are actively engaged in introducing students to various technical skills and ideas specific to that discipline. The cohesive sequencing of courses within each studio area allows the student to build skills and knowledge towards a highly sophisticated level of work in that field of exploration.

Students pursuing the Master of Music in Conducting are given extensive podium time and are mentored by dedicated and active conducting faculty. Upon graduation students are prepared to:

• Seek their doctoral degree
• Conduct school, church or community ensembles
• Conduct at a community college or university

The curriculum includes:

• Applied conducting
• Analysis for conductors
• Research
• Practicum in conducting
• Electives chosen from courses like non-degree recitals, music technology, music history, music theory, music education, music therapy, music business, jazz studies, ensembles, and non-music courses

Biomechanics is the study of forces and their effects on living systems.

The graduate program studies how biomechanics relate to performance enhancement and injury prevention. Students apply what they learn and serve as movement analysts in sports and workplaces. At the end of the program, they complete a thesis, independent study, or professional practice.

Depending on individual career aspirations, completion of the Biomechanics sequence prepares a student for future study at the doctoral level, for employment as a research assistant with a corporate entity, or to serve as a member of a workplace safety team.

International Business
Illinois State University is the only public university in Illinois offering a major in International Business. If you have studied a foreign language in high school, if you want to major in business, if you are interested in the international expansion of business, then this is the right major for you!

International Business is an interdisciplinary program, combining core courses in general business and foreign languages with advanced courses in international business. Students choose a specific concentration from marketing, finance, insurance, management, business information systems, or accountancy. Advanced courses in business look not only at international activities in the different majors, but also at the way cultures affect business and the legal environments of different countries.

The Communication Studies - Organizational and Leadership Communication sequence enhances communication knowledge, understanding, and skills for enhancing organizational relationships. The goal of this sequence is to equip the student to successfully use communication as a tool to enhance organizational outcomes. Students will gain an understanding of how communication processes can be used to manage behaviors in an organizational context while becoming a competent communicator.

Typical careers include community relations, convention planning, training specialist, entry-level and executive management, corporate communication.
