Anthropology
Anthropology studies humans from evolution to the present day. It thrives on curiosity and seeks to answer the questions we’ve always wondered, like:

• Where do we come from?
• What does it mean to be human?
• Why do people act the way they do?
• Why are things the way they are?

The journey to these answers is fascinating and Anthropology at Illinois State tackles these big questions head-on.

As a student in our program, you’ll dive deep into cultures, language, and artifacts from the ancient past. You’ll see firsthand how anthropology has major impacts on issues we face today, like poverty, health, and social justice.

History-Social Sciences Teacher Education
After you finish our program, you will be ready to teach history and other social sciences at the high school level, including AP courses. You will have had real teaching experiences: observations, micro-teaching and finishing it off with a semester of student teaching. You’ll learn more about the topics you’ve always loved – and how to teach them.

This program offers an Accelerated Master's Degree (AMD) sequence. This option gives high-achieving undergraduate students the opportunity to earn a master’s degree with only one year of additional study. Once enrolled in the major, you can contact your advisor to learn more.

Marketing - Integrated Marketing CommunicationThe Integrated Marketing Communication sequence allows students to focus on the coordination of all aspects of marketing communication such as advertising, sales promotion, public relations, and direct marketing, in an effort to provide a consistent message to consumers. Students complete three required courses in marketing and two required and three elective courses in integrated marketing communication.

Not only are a significant number of marketing students interested in the IMC fields, the area offers a wide range of professional opportunities, with strong growth projections. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) predicts 12 percent job growth for marketing managers from 2012 to 2022. The median salary for marketing managers was $127,130 in 2014, according to the BLS.

Criminal Justice Sciences

• Earning a criminal justice degree empowers you to make positive contributions to society.
• The field offers plenty of variety that leads to an exciting and engaging career. Professionals enforce laws, protect citizens, rehabilitate offenders, help victims, and develop programs to help prevent crime.
• The criminal justice program at Illinois State examines policing, courts, and corrections. We do this with a social science point of view. As a student, you'll explore human behavior and take an in-depth look at the issues and circumstances that lead to crime. This gives you a well-rounded perspective and prepares you to be a leader for positive change.    
• You'll also gain all the skills you need to be successful in your career. We'll teach you how to interview, develop programs, promote community well-being, and analyze crime hotspots.

The Agribusiness sequence includes courses in agriculture, agribusiness, economics and business. Graduates find career opportunities in sales, finance, grain and livestock marketing, farm management, food industry management and the commodity futures industry. Students graduating in this sequence with the combination of business, science and applied agriculture courses are sought after and valuable employees in the agricultural industry.

Our master’s degree in Applied Economics links basic economic theory and statistical techniques to real-world problems faced by decision makers. With emphasis on extensive training in econometrics and forecasting, exposure to working with large and diverse data sets, and a wide range of statistical software, this program gives students the applied skills that employers demand and provides those pursuing advanced degrees an edge in gaining admission to top Ph.D. programs.

The Applied Economics sequence is designed to train students in the quantitative and applied economic skills that will best enhance their future employment opportunities as economists, research analysts, or planners in the private and public sectors. While the curriculum is structured as a terminal degree in applied economics and many graduates have advanced to doctoral-level programs in economics and in related disciplines, the program is also well suited for individuals who wish to return to school to obtain a graduate degree in a business-related discipline for the purpose of career advancement.

The Applied Economics program is a STEM designated degree, which focuses on the systematic study of mathematical and statistical analysis of economic phenomena and problems. STEM designated degree programs offer additional benefits for students, including potential grant funded opportunities and, for international students, extended OPT study options.

Psychology
The major in Psychology requires a capstone experience, which provides students with challenging opportunities to apply their knowledge of psychology to research, teaching, or practice endeavors. Students can work with faculty in the classroom or their research labs, or study specific topics of the student's interest.

The Department of Psychology has also established an extensive internship program that gives students opportunities to apply their knowledge in a work setting in the local community. The Research Apprenticeship Program, Undergraduate Teaching Assistantship Program, and Internship Program are designed to give students practical experiences beyond their academic coursework.

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences offers a Master of Science or Master of Arts degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with a sequence in Fashion Design and Merchandising (FDM). The sequence is designed for professionals seeking advanced study in this area.

This sequence option is most appropriate for individuals interested in careers in the fashion design and merchandising field who have related degrees such as business, especially marketing, public relations, art, and design.

Family and Consumer Sciences graduate students with an interest in the FDM field can choose among seventeen courses that could be included as part of their graduate degree program. The courses offered are in two concentration areas; Fashion Merchandising and Fashion Product Design and Production.
