The course framework for the Biochemistry program provides a solid foundation necessary for advanced study in medicine, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, chemistry and biology, as well as forming the basis for entry-level positions in the pharmaceutical and biotechnical industries. While the degree requirements may satisfy many professional or graduate programs, it is important to consult the admission requirements as early as possible for the particular programs at schools to which the individual is likely to apply. Exercise Physiology studies how the body's structures and functions alter during exercise.

Professionals use exercise physiology principles when training clients to maximize their physical potential. Exercise Physiology students study these principles and apply them to how people acquire, use, and improve motor skill. Students also learn to use physical activity to educate individuals in health, fitness, and sport settings. At the end of the program, students may choose between completing a thesis or independent study.

Elementary Education - Bilingual/Bicultural Teacher Education
Focusing on the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures, the Elementary Education-Bilingual/Bicultural Teacher Education program at Illinois State prepares future teachers for state approval or endorsement to teach in bilingual elementary classrooms. You will be prepared for a professional educator's license in grades 1-6.

Candidates for this program experience a yearlong Professional Development School (PDS) internship in a bilingual classroom in Chicago, Elgin, Palatine, or Wheeling. Graduates of our program are certificated to teach in Spanish/English-bilingual elementary classrooms, English-speaking elementary classrooms, and often have a minor in Spanish or English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement.

Students completing the Animal Science sequence generally seek a strong science-based curriculum. This program is suggested for students working toward careers in veterinary medicine, animal research, and technical expertise for businesses specializing in genetics, reproduction, nutrition or pharmaceuticals.

The Theatre Teacher Education sequence at Illinois State University is dedicated to preparing highly qualified teachers/artists to meet the challenges of education in the secondary school system.

Illinois State University is recognized nationally as the second largest producer of teachers among institutions certified by the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education. Nearly one of every seven teachers in Illinois public school classrooms holds a degree from Illinois State.

The Technology Education program prepares graduates to advance as technology education teachers in the public secondary schools.

The Technology Education sequence is not a teacher certification program. Certified teachers pursue the degree for professional development. Non-certified students also may pursue the master's in conjunction with other courses required for teacher certification.

The specialist program in School Psychology is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), the Council for Accreditation of Teacher Educator Preparation (CAEP), and the Illinois State Board of Education. We provide our students with comprehensive curriculum, high quality training, and properly supervised field experiences that are consistent with NASP Standards for Graduate Preparation of School Psychologists (2010). The mission of the specialist program, which emphasizes the scientist-practitioner model of training, is to develop entry-level competencies in our graduates so they can function as school psychologists in public and private schools. The specialist degree can be completed in three years with full time enrollment on campus for two years and a 9-month internship.

Legal Studies
Students in Legal Studies, a major offered by the Department of Politics and Government, have great opportunities for learning and growth, both as individuals and within the paralegal field as a whole. The Department of Politics and Government provides a variety of resources for Legal Studies majors including internship opportunities, small class sizes, as well as full-time faculty or experienced practitioners teaching all levels of coursework.

The Legal Studies curriculum is designed to provide specialized knowledge and skills to prepare students for employment as a paralegal. Paralegals may not provide legal services directly to the public, except as permitted by law. Students preparing for law school should consult with the pre-law advisor to determine which courses are appropriate for them.

Network and telecommunications systems are the backbone of the information age. They include systems we use every day, such as the internet, text messaging, and watching TV. Their main goal is to send a message from one point to another without losing or changing the message.

Professionals in the field design and manage networks. They keep up with technology trends and adapt networks to meet current needs.

The Network and Telecommunications Management major studies the theory and application of cutting-edge technology. We also cover policy issues dealing with data, image, video, and voice delivery. Understanding these policies is essential when designing and managing networks.
