Music - Composition/Theory Emphasis
Music theory is the study of the inner workings of music composition. Students who enjoy improvising, learning about how music is put together, and digging deeper into the inner workings of the mechanics of music composition may be music theorists or composers.

Composition students with a theory emphasis learn how to write music as a way of understanding its structure from the inside out. They work one-on-one with our composition theory faculty to create original research in the area of music theory.

Journalism
Journalism is changing rapidly in the 21st century, with stories moving across a range of platforms – from television and the web to radio, newspapers and magazines, as well as across social networks like Twitter and Facebook. This means that the budding journalist needs to know not only how to gather facts and write informative stories, but also how to work with audio and video clips, create and use web sites, and be adept at distributing news through social media.

Journalism Majors at ISU are taught this wide range of essential skills. At the same time, they are encouraged to get involved in our own award-wining campus news, entertainment and sports outlets:

The anthropology master's program at Illinois State is flexible and individualized. With only two required courses, you can work with an advisor to design a curriculum that engages you and helps you achieve your goals.

Our graduate program builds on our fully developed four-field program in archaeology, anthropological linguistics, cultural anthropology, and biological anthropology. Within that, we offer five concentrations:

The Actuarial Science Program at Illinois State combines high quality education in all areas of actuarial theory with serious commitment to actuarial practice and professionalism.

We offer two ways to complete the M.S. in Actuarial Science; traditional (on-campus) or online. The actuarial science program is designed to support you as you prepare to pass the professional exams set by the two major societies for Actuaries in the U.S. or to take similar exams from similar societies elsewhere.

Our program is designed to give you the tools you need to advance in the field and be a stand out for competitive positions. The theories and principles we cover in the classroom can be applied to your current or future role in the field.

Overall, you'll gain a better understanding of policing, courts, and corrections. We study how each entity functions and operates. We also examine how they relate to each other, society, and the world.

Classes in our graduate program are small. This lets you work closely with other professionals and students. You'll engage in meaningful discussions on all the challenges and interesting topics in the criminal justice arena. This gives you a unique academic experience and introduces you to different perspectives.

The Industrial/Organizational-Social Psychology graduate sequence focuses on the application of psychological theory and methodology in employment and social settings. The sequence is designed to prepare students as scientist-practitioners who use psychological theory and methodology to address the problems associated with industrial, business, and government organizations, as well as the problems of individuals and groups in these settings. Students may focus their graduate study on either Industrial/Organizational Psychology or Social Psychology.

Family and Consumer Sciences - Fashion Merchandising
The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences offers a Master of Science or Master of Arts degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with a sequence in Fashion Design and Merchandising (FDM). The sequence is designed for professionals seeking advanced study in this area.

This sequence option is most appropriate for individuals interested in careers in the fashion design and merchandising field who have related degrees such as business, especially marketing, public relations, art, and design.

Family and Consumer Sciences graduate students with an interest in the FDM field can choose among seventeen courses that could be included as part of their graduate degree program. The courses offered are in two concentration areas; Fashion Merchandising and Fashion Product Design and Production.

The Business Information Systems (BIS) curriculum provides a foundation for students to develop deeper expertise in business information systems activities. The BIS program is intended for those students who wish to move from entry-level jobs to top-level positions where the student would use a combination of business and technical knowledge to lead the design and development of leading-edge enterprise solutions, and maintaining business solutions at the enterprise level.
