German
The German major offers courses in literature, culture, and language within a setting that stresses frequent and informal interaction of students with faculty and with visiting German students on campus. Students can study literary greats from Goethe to Kafka, examine fairy tales or popular song texts, and learn about the latest developments in the European Union. Honors students and students who are merely interested have deciphered letters written by 19th-century German immigrants; and all are welcome at weekly informal gatherings where our local German students often form bonds with visiting students from Germany.

The sociology field is broad and our program reflects that. We'll give you a solid foundation in data analysis and research methods to prepare you to work in a data-driven society. From there, what you study is up to you. You can choose to focus on areas of sociology that engage you and meet your goals.

We offer lots of opportunities for you to take a deep dive into your passion. In addition to a thesis, you can work one-on-one with faculty on research projects that make positive impacts in communities around the world.

Sociology at Illinois State offers you all the support you need. Our classes are small and you'll have plenty of individualized attention. Plus, our faculty and staff will be with you from start to finish.

The Biomathematics program at Illinois State University was developed to help students understand how biology and mathematics are intertwined and how a broad-based knowledge of each area will be critical for future graduate study and/or employment opportunities.

The Biomathematics sequence incorporates cross-disciplinary research as integral to the curriculum. Students choose a series of courses concentrated in one of three critical areas of Biomathematics (theoretical and applied statistics, deterministic and stochastic modeling, or computation and bioinformatics) and conduct thesis research within the cross-disciplinary field of Biomathematics. It is one of several Programs of Excellence awarded by the College of Arts and Sciences. There is no other Biomathematics M.S. program in Illinois, and the few existing programs in the nation typically do not exhibit the strong and balanced emphasis on coursework in both disciplines the Biomathematics program will offer.

Dance
The Dance program at Illinois State University offers an intensive, individualized and performance-based approach connecting theory with practice. We provide a challenging yet nurturing environment that prepares students for careers in performance, choreography, teaching, and for future post-graduate study. The program is supported by a diverse and ambitious nationally recognized faculty, bringing a wide variety of movement styles and philosophies to the program.

Students in the Dance sequence take an extensive range of courses that emphasize different aspects of dance training and creativity within the fine and performing arts. Dancers will develop their intellectual and artistic abilities through coursework that includes choreography and improvisation, dance history, multicultural perspectives, dance kinesiology and somatic practices. Additionally, students have opportunities to study abroad, work with a variety of guest artists, and to network with Illinois State alumni working in the field.

Students will experience a variety of diverse performance opportunities alongside a strong and comprehensive curriculum. Illinois State Dance Theatre is the pre-professional dance company supported by the School of Theatre and Dance that offers students consistent performance opportunities to work with nationally recognized faculty and guest artists each school year. The program sponsors Dance Association, a registered student organization that offers weekly workshops, supports guest teachers, and produces the annual Dance Inventions Student Choreographed Concert. Students are also involved in theatrical productions within the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts, as well as touring productions of faculty and guest artists' work on a regional and national level.

Theatre Teacher Education
The Theatre Teacher Education sequence at Illinois State University is dedicated to preparing highly qualified teachers/artists to meet the challenges of education in the secondary school system.

Illinois State University is recognized nationally as the second largest producer of teachers among institutions certified by the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education. Nearly one of every seven teachers in Illinois public school classrooms holds a degree from Illinois State.

Internet Application Development is a master's sequence in Information Systems and is ideal for students seeking advanced knowledge in web development. The program provides specialized education in emerging technologies, including mobile application development.

The Spanish program at Illinois State University takes pride in offering small classes where students receive individualized attention and training in all aspects of language proficiency. Just as important, our undergraduates develop critical thinking skills and appreciation for diversity as they take courses in Hispanic cultures and literatures, as well as Spanish linguistics.

Our slate of offerings includes a sturdy base of fundamentals, on which students build their own program from a selection of electives of most interest to them. We also provide community-based service learning experiences and opportunities to participate in award-winning student organizations like our Spanish Club and Sigma Delta Pi, Illinois State's chapter of the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society.

The Theatre Studies major provides you with a broad-based, hands-on education in theatre within the context of a liberal arts degree. After completing a strong core of theatre courses, you have the flexibility to choose specialty courses based on your interests and career orientation in the following areas:
