Following a first year foundations curriculum, students can choose a sequence within an individual studio. Within each sequence, faculty are actively engaged in introducing students to various technical skills and ideas specific to that discipline. The cohesive sequencing of courses within each studio area allows the student to build skills and knowledge towards a highly sophisticated level of work in that field of exploration.

Theatre Studies
The M.A. / M.S. degree program is designed for two populations of students:

• Students who intend to pursue a Ph.D. in Theatre and need a rigorous master's degree program to prepare them for further graduate study.
• Students who know they want to work professionally in theatre but are not yet certain which aspect of theatre best fits their interests.

A flexible program allows you to customize your course of study and build a solid foundation for further M.F.A. or Ph.D. studies, for teaching at the community college level, or for other professional careers in theatre, such as dramaturgy or literary management.

At Illinois State University, we are proud to offer the Bachelor of Science in Music Business degree. The Music Business sequence exposes musicians to the vast opportunities for careers in the music industry. Students examine topics from songwriting, revenue flow, industry mechanics, and entrepreneurial practices and visit with guest speakers ranging from classical music publishers to major label A&R people, from DIY punk musicians to hip-hop producers. The program culminates in time in a local recording studio and requires an internship in the field. In addition to the core music requirements, students need to complete 25 hours of coursework in the School of Music and the nationally recognized College of Business.

The Music Business degree enables students to develop their musical skills while preparing them to become leaders, thinkers, and creators in the new music industry.

French Teacher Education
Our award-winning and nationally accredited French Teacher Education major prepares graduates for K-12 teaching while offering a dynamic interdisciplinary lens for exploring the diverse cultural productions of the Francophone world: language, literature, the arts, politics, philosophy, and other fields of human inquiry and creative expression. Our students engage closely with faculty in small seminars and regularly study abroad for a year, semester, or summer in Angers or Grenoble (France), Québec (Canada), or Meknès (Morocco).

Regularly offered co-curricular activities including Pi Delta Phi (the French Honor Society), conversation tables, guest lectures, service learning, and a film series offer opportunities to hone your French outside the classroom.

Graduates in French Teacher Education demonstrate ACTFL-rated Advanced-Low language or higher proficiency and intercultural competencies, as well as the knowledge and experience necessary to become an effective educator.

Interior Design

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences offers a Master of Science or Master of Arts degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with a sequence in Interior Design. The master’s program expands knowledge on creativity, sustainability, health and wellness, and evidence-based design.

Students can tailor this sequence to focus on theory and research and further develop their design skills in commercial design, cultural/global design, healthcare facilities design, and universal design. The sequence is suitable for both designers and architects who want to teach or become research practitioners, as well as those who want to advance their undergraduate degree as a practitioner in the field.

Chemistry

The Early Childhood Teacher Education program at Illinois State will prepare you for a professional educator's license for teaching programs serving children birth to age 7 (grade 2). Throughout the coursework, teacher candidates will gain the professional knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to become a highly effective parent-infant educator, special education preschool educator, public school pre-kindergarten, child care, or kindergarten through second grade teacher.

Hydrogeology

You’ll conduct research that makes a real, positive impact. Our broad view of hydrogeology means you can explore your interests in the hydrologic cycle. Some recent research projects include:

• Surface water-groundwater interaction

• Flow in karst systems

The Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity program prepares students to make a positive impact on the professional practices and policies in their field. Students study psychological characteristics and their influence on sport and physical activity participation.
