The German major offers courses in literature, culture, and language within a setting that stresses frequent and informal interaction of students with faculty and with visiting German students on campus. Students can study literary greats from Goethe to Kafka, examine fairy tales or popular song texts, and learn about the latest developments in the European Union. Honors students and students who are merely interested have deciphered letters written by 19th-century German immigrants; and all are welcome at weekly informal gatherings where our local German students often form bonds with visiting students from Germany.

The student experience is often expanded by study abroad either at Paderborn or Bonn University. A new major and minor in European Studies offers an expanded context for the study of German.

Marketing
The basic curriculum is designed to thoroughly acquaint Marketing majors with the broad field of marketing and to allow focused study in narrower subfields, depending upon the students' interests and aptitudes. Students may choose Marketing electives from one or more of the following six career-track concentrations: Advertising/Promotion, Business/Industrial Marketing, Marketing Research, Retailing/Distribution, Selling/Sales Management, and Services Marketing.

The Wonsook Kim School of Art offers a comprehensive list of sequence options for a student interested in Studio Arts. The following are offered as areas of specialization: Ceramics, Drawing, Expanded Media, Glass, Printmaking, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Video, and Wood / Metal Design.

Following a first year foundations curriculum, students can choose a sequence within an individual studio. Within each sequence, faculty are actively engaged in introducing students to various technical skills and ideas specific to that discipline. The cohesive sequencing of courses within each studio area allows the student to build skills and knowledge towards a highly sophisticated level of work in that field of exploration.

Health and Human Performance
Exercise Science is the study of movement and the associated functional responses and adaptations the body makes as a result of movement/exercise.

The Health and Human Performance (HHP) sequence gives you a well-rounded foundation in areas of Exercise Science, including physiology, biomechanics, and sports psychology. HHP also studies how different exercises and fitness programs affect the human body.

Actuarial Science
The Actuarial Program at Illinois State University is a Center for Actuarial Excellence, one of the first nine academic programs in the United States to receive that recognition in 2009, and the first one in the State of Illinois. It is one of the leading actuarial programs in the United States, offering an undergraduate Bachelor degree, and a graduate Master degree. The program combines high quality education in all areas of actuarial theory with serious commitment to actuarial practice and professionalism.

This program prepares students to make a positive impact on professional practices and policies in recreation management. It also helps them be successful leaders in recreation, parks, and tourism.

Students think conceptually and analytically while focusing on scholarship and a disciplinary study. Coursework applies theories and practices in the areas of management, marketing, and finance. At the end of the sequence, students complete a thesis, professional practice, or an independent study.

Recreation Administration offers top-notch learning facilities and small class sizes that encourage interaction and discussion. Faculty members are dedicated to supporting students and provide learning opportunities that connect students to real-world professional issues.

The Quantitative Psychology graduate sequence focuses on the use of quantitative methods in the solution of problems in theoretical and applied psychology. The sequence provides critical foundation preparation for advanced graduate study and can facilitate entry into careers in community college teaching or in the business-industrial sector.

The objectives of the sequence include building a solid foundation of basic psychological principles that help students to understand and explain human behavior. Students are trained to be adept at using computers and technology in data collection, management, and analysis based on a proficiency in common statistical software packages as well as using the Internet in data collection and analysis.

The specialist program in School Psychology is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), the Council for Accreditation of Teacher Educator Preparation (CAEP), and the Illinois State Board of Education. We provide our students with comprehensive curriculum, high quality training, and properly supervised field experiences that are consistent with NASP Standards for Graduate Preparation of School Psychologists (2010). The mission of the specialist program, which emphasizes the scientist-practitioner model of training, is to develop entry-level competencies in our graduates so they can function as school psychologists in public and private schools. The specialist degree can be completed in three years with full time enrollment on campus for two years and a 9-month internship.

Music Business
At Illinois State University, we are proud to offer the Bachelor of Science in Music Business degree. The Music Business sequence exposes musicians to the vast opportunities for careers in the music industry. Students examine topics from songwriting, revenue flow, industry mechanics, and entrepreneurial practices and visit with guest speakers ranging from classical music publishers to major label A&R people, from DIY punk musicians to hip-hop producers. The program culminates in time in a local recording studio and requires an internship in the field. In addition to the core music requirements, students need to complete 25 hours of coursework in the School of Music and the nationally recognized College of Business.

 The Risk Management and Insurance major at Illinois State University is a premier, nationally known program that prepares students for a number of different careers in insurance and risk management. The major prepares students to manage a variety of traditional and emerging risks, as well as explore different treatment options including the use of insurance and other risk transfer solutions.
