Illinois State University is one of only a handful of institutions that offer a terminal M.S. degree in Chemistry. Our graduate program is aimed exclusively at the master's level, and so all of the students in the graduate program enter seeking the master's degree.

Hydrogeology at Illinois State knows the important role hydrogeologists play in the environment. That’s why our program focuses only on the field of hydrogeology. This ensures you get all the tools you need for a successful career in the private sector, government, or academia.

You’ll conduct research that makes a real, positive impact. Our broad view of hydrogeology means you can explore your interests in the hydrologic cycle. Some recent research projects include:

• Surface water-groundwater interaction
• Nutrient cycling
• Impacts of humans and global change in hydrologic and water resource systems
• Flow in karst systems
• Sediment transport

Our core curriculum lets you claim the title of hydrogeologist when you graduate. You’ll be able to work in a variety of areas all over the world, such as the private sector, government, or higher education.

Economics - General Economics
Economics is the study of how to critically evaluate problems and make well-reasoned decisions. As such, the Economics major is particularly well suited to prepare students for the career challenges in the 21st century by helping them develop important skills, including the ability to apply a general framework of analysis for solving real-world problems, conduct mathematical and statistical analysis, work with data to address specific issues, and effectively communicate, in written and oral form, with others.

A student can earn either a B.S. or a B.A. degree in Economics. The major offers students the flexibility to select a set of courses that simultaneously satisfy the requirements of the major while focusing on a specific area such as business or pre-law. The curriculum is highlighted by a senior project required of Economics majors that gives each student an opportunity to work with an individual faculty member on a research project selected by the student.

The requirement of 33 hours allows the flexibility to consider a second major or minor as a way to expand your career possibilities and distinguish yourself from your peers. The list of majors students most frequently combine with Economics includes Business Administration, Mathematics, Computer Science, and Political Science.

Human Development and Family Science
The Human Development and Family Science (HDFS) major prepares students to provide educational, preventive and intervention services to individuals and families which enhance personal, family and community well-being. Students develop the skills needed to assist people of all ages achieve individual and family well-being.

Creative Technologies
The Master of Science in Creative Technologies is a 39-hour interdisciplinary program in the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts that emphasizes theory, design, and practice in the application of computer technology to traditional art, music, and theatre disciplines with an emphasis on interactive media, sound design, digital music, and computer coding for arts applications.

The program provides critical training and experiences that prepare graduates for careers in digital and interactive media production including: front-end web development; video production; sound design for live performance, broadcast, and multimedia; digital music composition and production; and emerging arts disciplines where basic knowledge of coding is required. Graduates work for employers of all types including small businesses, government agencies, and corporations; and some are self-employed entrepreneurs.

The program is appropriate for students who have training in the arts, experience working with digital and interactive communication tools, or computer science with experience in the arts and interactive media. Many students have established careers in related fields and wish to enhance their knowledge of new technical tools and creative processes.

Computer Science

Master of Science in Computer Science (MSCS) at Illinois State gives you the knowledge and tools necessary to study important issues in computer science to obtain productive employment or pursue advanced degrees.

Our program emphasizes foundational knowledge in computer science and programmatic application of fundamental concepts in leading-edge applications.

It is appropriate for a range of students, including industry computing professionals seeking career advancement, students wishing to expand on their undergraduate computer science work and/or prepare for doctoral degree, and individuals wishing to make a career change.

Marketing - Integrated Marketing CommunicationThe Integrated Marketing Communication sequence allows students to focus on the coordination of all aspects of marketing communication such as advertising, sales promotion, public relations, and direct marketing, in an effort to provide a consistent message to consumers. Students complete three required courses in marketing and two required and three elective courses in integrated marketing communication.

Not only are a significant number of marketing students interested in the IMC fields, the area offers a wide range of professional opportunities, with strong growth projections. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) predicts 12 percent job growth for marketing managers from 2012 to 2022. The median salary for marketing managers was $127,130 in 2014, according to the BLS.

Agriculture - Agribusiness
The Agribusiness sequence includes courses in agriculture, agribusiness, economics and business. Graduates find career opportunities in sales, finance, grain and livestock marketing, farm management, food industry management and the commodity futures industry. Students graduating in this sequence with the combination of business, science and applied agriculture courses are sought after and valuable employees in the agricultural industry.

Mass Media - Media Management, Promotion, and Sales
The mass media program at ISU consists of two tracks:

• Media Arts

As a mass media major, you will learn about the history of the media industries while practicing the business and creation of media in their coursework and hands-on experiences at our student media outlets:

• WZND Radio
• TV 10
• The Vidette
• Student Television Workshop

The major in Psychology requires a capstone experience, which provides students with challenging opportunities to apply their knowledge of psychology to research, teaching, or practice endeavors. Students can work with faculty in the classroom or their research labs, or study specific topics of the student's interest.

The Department of Psychology has also established an extensive internship program that gives students opportunities to apply their knowledge in a work setting in the local community. The Research Apprenticeship Program, Undergraduate Teaching Assistantship Program, and Internship Program are designed to give students practical experiences beyond their academic coursework.
