Elementary Education - Bilingual/Bicultural Teacher Education
Focusing on the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures, the Elementary Education-Bilingual/Bicultural Teacher Education program at Illinois State prepares future teachers for state approval or endorsement to teach in bilingual elementary classrooms. You will be prepared for a professional educator's license in grades 1-6.

Candidates for this program experience a yearlong Professional Development School (PDS) internship in a bilingual classroom in Chicago, Elgin, Palatine, or Wheeling. Graduates of our program are certificated to teach in Spanish/English-bilingual elementary classrooms, English-speaking elementary classrooms, and often have a minor in Spanish or English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement.

The graduate sequence in Art Education emphasizes both theory and practice in visual arts, museum, and community arts education. Theoretical ideas are explored through both historical and contemporary models, including culturally responsive, anti-racist, and social-emotional approaches, with an emphasis on practical education and application. You will have the chance to elaborate concepts in tranditional and digital media while interacting and collaborating with stakeholders in a range of settings. Students with a bachelor's or master's degree can pursue an M.S. degree in Art Education while working toward licensure.

Master of Music in Performance students are afforded intensive applied study with a professionally accomplished artist-teacher. Performance degrees are offered in all orchestral and band instruments, as well as in piano, guitar, and voice.

    The MM in Performance prepares you for a career in:

• Opera houses
• Teaching at the college level

    The MM in Performance curriculum includes:

• Applied music
• Music pedagogy and literature
• Analysis for Performers
• History
• Research
• Ensembles
• Electives which could include: Non-degree recitals, music technology, music history, music theory, music education, music therapy, music business, applied music, jazz studies and non-music courses
• A written comprehensive exam and a recital are required for graduation.

Communication Studies -

 I nterpe rsonal  The Communication Studies - Interpersonal sequence focuses on communication interaction between individuals and the impact each has on the other. The program provides a grounding in the power of communication to affect outcomes and relations across a variety of settings. Often, coursework may examine relationship development in families, social settings, and work.

Typical careers include social services, human relations, interpersonal consulting, affirmative actions, sales, and counseling.

Construction Management
Accredited by the American Council For Construction Education (ACCE), the Construction Management major develops leaders for the building construction industry.

Through an interdisciplinary curriculum, students receive a background in:

The program focuses on production, technical, and management capabilities rather than design and craft skills.

The primary objective of the Master of Science in Accountancy program is to provide candidates preparing for professional careers in accounting a greater breadth and depth in accounting education than is possible in a baccalaureate or Master of Business Administration program.

The degree builds upon the broad framework of the undergraduate degree in accounting. Graduate accounting courses emphasize study of current accounting literature, critical thinking, case studies, accounting theory, and written and oral communication. Class sizes are designed to be small to encourage interaction between the professor and each student.
