Master of Engineering in Bioengineering

Our integrated curriculum, combining both the biological and physical sciences, offers training and research opportunities in the fields of molecular and computational toxicology, environmental chemistry, ecotoxicology and risk assessment in support of our state-of-the-art and internationally competitive research, outreach and education missions. Required core courses, advanced training in a specialized area, and interdisciplinary and team-based experiential learning and professional development opportunities together strengthen the student's training in the basic sciences and ensure a thorough knowledge of the applied science of toxicology.

Chemistry
An undergraduate degree in Chemistry opens a gateway to many professions or further studies in graduate school or professional schools, like medical school.  A Chemistry degree provides a solid foundation for many professions including teaching, forensics, biotechnology, medicine, materials science and nanotechnology, chemical processing, electronics, agricultural and food science, oceanography, and environmental science.  At OSU, we provide a very flexible curriculum that can be tuned to your interests.  Check out the options we have for you!

Philosophy
The philosophy program at OSU is designed to help students develop moral reasoning and critical thinking skills in the service of an engaged life.  Through coursework, campus events, and community involvement, our students learn how to identify, analyze, and resolve ethical, political, and epistemic issues, mentored by faculty who are actively involved in ethics and social justice research across a wide array of disciplines on the environment, religion, biomedicine, global justice, peace and conflict studies, and more.

The Department of Physics offers courses and research experience leading to the master of arts, master of science, and doctor of philosophy degrees. Advanced-degree candidates may pursue thesis research in experimental, computational, or theoretical condensed matter physics, optical physics, biophysics, high energy physics, astrophysics, and physics education research. Special programs are available for students who are preparing for careers in undergraduate teaching. Thesis and nonthesis programs are offered leading to the M.S. and M.A. degrees.

The department maintains a vigorous colloquium program in which well-known physicists present lectures on current research. Students are invited to participate in topical seminars offered regularly in each of the major research areas for the discussion of research results and for studies of specialized subjects at an advanced level.

Graduate students in physics have the opportunity to study and conduct research in close collaboration with faculty in the informal environment of a relatively small department. A young, energetic faculty trained in some of the world’s top physics programs lead investigations in a range of research areas.

Business Information Systems
The Business Information Systems curriculum will teach you to harness technology to help organizations achieve a competitive advantage in today's rapidly changing environment. You will gain a firm foundation in business administration and learn to architect, manage, develop and deploy information systems. Depending on your skills and interests you might become a business process analyst, IT project manager, data modeler, systems analyst, software quality tester, developer or database administrator, or you can choose from other technology-related business careers.

Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical engineers design, develop, and improve devices, products, processes, and systems. A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering can lead to work in almost any type of industry. At Oregon State, mechanical engineering focal areas include design, mechanics materials, robotics & control, and thermal–fluid sciences.

Biological Data SciencesA degree in BDS provides a wealth of career and graduate school opportunities. Advances, such as next generation sequencing, drones, satellite imagery, and crowd sourcing, have transformed the life sciences by enabling data collection to occur at speeds and scales previously unimaginable. This paradigm shift in how researchers answer biological questions has resulted in an ever-increasing need for scientists with appropriate expertise in both biological and quantitative thinking.

Bioengineering
The Bioengineering undergraduate program (initiated in 1996 as biological engineering) provides a solid background in biology (anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology), chemistry, physics and math, in addition to the engineering sciences. Upper-level course work in bioengineering includes analysis and design of processes involving suspension and immobilized microbial cultures and the recovery of therapeutic products from bioreactors, as well as selection courses in mammalian cell culture and tissue engineering, biomedical materials engineering and cellular engineering. All students complete coursework in drug and medical device regulation as well as a capstone-design experience. Bioengineering graduates are prepared to contribute to the rapidly growing bioscience-based industries, and are able to formulate and solve problems relevant to the design of devices and systems to improve human health.

The OSU political science program investigates the stories behind the news headlines and teaches you skills to make up your own mind about the politics of laws that affect everyday issues. You will learn to think critically, write clearly and speak persuasively on diverse issues such as: assisted suicide, international terrorism, campaign finance, government involvement in health care and censorship.
