English
Writing is central to all aspects of Saint Louis University's program in English. In all English courses, students hone their ability to write and to reflect upon what they read. 

Along with courses in literature in which critical and analytical writing plays a principal role, students majoring in English at SLU may take courses in various genres of creative writing or business and professional writing. These courses enhance both personal creativity and professional competence. Saint Louis University's Department of Women’s and Gender Studies is open to people of all genders, with courses focusing on women, gender and sexuality across the curriculum of the humanities and social sciences and including professional schools such as nursing, law and social work.
Women’s and gender studies is the study of the human experience that places women and gender at the center of the analysis. It is an interdisciplinary field that draws from knowledge and expertise in the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. It examines how gender inequality is built into social institutions and practices, envisions more egalitarian alternatives, and studies strategies of social change.

Emergency Management
Saint Louis University's Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management is the only undergraduate emergency management program offered at a Jesuit university in the United States. Through SLU's School for Professional Studies, you will learn to administer aid and assistance to others, helping to ensure the resilience of your community in the face of disasters large and small. This comprehensive, multi-disciplinary program focuses on all sectors recognized by the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), providing students with essential skills for careers in the emergency management sector.

Saint Louis University's Master of Arts in Women’s and Gender Studies provides an interdisciplinary education about contemporary social justice issues, preparing students for leadership and advocacy roles in community or academic settings.

While gender is the primary focus, each course and the discipline as a whole examine gender in light of race, ethnicity, class, sexual identity, ability, age and religion. The discipline teaches students to think critically and to engage in the world as responsible citizens.

Bioethics and Health Studies
Bioethics is a field that analyzes the ethical questions raised by advances in medical and scientific technology. It examines these questions both in the clinical context and in health policy. Well-known bioethical topics include abortion, euthanasia and stem cell research. But the field’s area of study has grown dramatically in recent decades in keeping with the rapid pace of biotechnological advances. More recent bioethical work addresses developments in genetics, neuroscience, public health and various emerging fields in the biomedical sciences.

Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary field of study that employs the tools and perspectives of biology, psychology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, philosophy and medicine to achieve a better understanding of brain structure, function and behavior.

The mission of Saint Louis University's Department of Philosophy is to provide a philosophical education appropriate to the Catholic and Jesuit goals of education. This goal is rooted in the basic Catholic belief that all human experience reveals and speaks to the existence and nature of God as well as to the dignity and value of all human beings in themselves and as members of the human community.

Nutrition and Dietetics
Dietetics — the application of food and nutrition knowledge to promote health, prevent disease and minimize disability — is a rapidly growing profession in allied health. Dietitians are dedicated to helping the public attain better health and longevity through the use of sound nutrition practices. Saint Louis University's nutrition and dietetics program is one of the few in the nation that allows you to become both a registered dietitian nutritionist and a certified chef. Graduates are prepared with foundation knowledge and skills to enter the field of nutrition.

Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) with alternative certification is designed to enable students who have undergraduate degrees in content areas and were not education majors to seek Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education certification via an alternative route. This degree is designed to offer students expanded knowledge in content areas and pedagogy, current educational practices, and the processes of teaching and learning.
