Suffolk University's Politics, Philosophy & Economics (PPE) program is the first of its kind in the Boston area. An interdisciplinary major that draws from three academic departments, PPE will give you a foundation in policy, ethics, and economics. Public Relations
What's it take to succeed in PR? Image is almost everything, but there's a lot you'll need to learn. Suffolk University's public relations major will ground you in the business—and the art—of crafting attention-getting, thought-provoking campaigns that make a difference.

You’ll begin by learning the foundations of public relations, including its history, theory, trends, and practices. You’ll take courses in professional writing, digital and social media, web design, and event planning and promotion. All of this leads to advanced courses in planning public relations campaigns for corporate or nonprofit class clients.

Philosophy
The Department of Philosophy offers a variety of courses in which you'll study the principles of critical thinking and argumentation that help us address these questions. Here you can take classes on topics from logic to the philosophy of art, from existentialism to environmental ethics, from feminism to the philosophy of race and gender. We also feature courses outside the western tradition, including Chinese philosophy, Buddhism, African philosophy, and Native American religion. In advanced seminars, you'll delve into the works of the great philosophers—Plato, Aristotle, Kant, Heidegger, Wittgenstein, and others.

Environmental Studies
Whether you see yourself doing environmental research on rainforests, advocating for better air-quality policies, or working in government, you can explore these interests as an environmental studies major.

You’ll learn to be an interdisciplinary problem-solver, drawing from the natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences. You’ll develop a comprehensive understanding of complex environmental issues. Focus your studies with a concentration in environmental policy or urban environmentalism. You might enhance your studies with service learning for an environmental organization, study abroad in Costa Rica or the Galapagos Islands, or a research project with classmates right here in Boston. Suffolk’s English majors explore the powerful connections between literary themes and modern issues. You’ll learn to articulate strong points of view, compose your thoughts in an organized and creative way, identify major literary themes, and draw lessons from groundbreaking works that illuminate aspects of the human condition.

You’ll benefit from Suffolk’s proximity to the Boston Public Library, the country’s first large public library. Boston has been home to legendary writers for generations, including Emerson, Alcott, Thoreau, and Plath. Now, it's your turn to make your literary mark!

Concentration in Literature
In the Literature Concertation, you can take a wide variety of classes spanning from survey courses that explore foundational texts of the British and American literary canon along with intellectually stimulating and wide-ranging upper-level electives that focus on diverse writers and engage with multifaceted literary topics and various genres. Suffolk University's program is tailored to your goals. You'll start by taking two foundation courses that focus on effective speaking, concise writing, and critical thinking and then courses in writing, online journalism, and media law. Next, you’ll gain specific knowledge and hands-on experience in journalism.

Concentration in Broadcast
In the broadcast journalism concentration, you’ll gain invaluable experience in our capstone course Suffolk U News. Internships are also vital. Suffolk students regularly work at New England Cable News, PBS, and the local affiliates of NBC, CBS, and ABC, and Fox News and ESPN.

Chemistry
You’ll follow a course of study endorsed by the American Chemical Society (ACS), which is highly respected in the field. You may also join Suffolk's award-winning ACS student chapter. Students involved in this co-curricular activity host speakers and enjoy participating in community service projects, for example volunteering at the nearby Museum of Science or the Boston Children’s Museum. Additionally, opportunities may be available to attend ACS regional and national meetings to learn about current research from experts in the field and even present your own research.
