Suffolk University's program is tailored to your goals. You'll start by taking two foundation courses that focus on effective speaking, concise writing, and critical thinking and then courses in writing, online journalism, and media law. Next, you’ll gain specific knowledge and hands-on experience in journalism.

Concentration in Broadcast
In the broadcast journalism concentration, you’ll gain invaluable experience in our capstone course Suffolk U News. Internships are also vital. Suffolk students regularly work at New England Cable News, PBS, and the local affiliates of NBC, CBS, and ABC, and Fox News and ESPN.

Radiation Science
The radiation science major emphasizes laboratory and research training rather than clinical training, making it ideal preparation for medical research careers and graduate study. By integrating the study of biology, radiation, physics, chemistry, and mathematics, our well-rounded program prepares you for a career in healthcare or any of the sciences. Majors in the program have the opportunity to complete an internship at a regional healthcare facility, including the possibility of interning at a top medical center, even though clinical training isn't a requirement of this program.

Art History
Art embodies the rich tapestry of human history and cultures across the world. Art history examines how images and monuments communicate and how they function in society: to teach and to move; to exalt and to incite.

As an art history major, you'll gain access to other cultures, other eras, and other ways of thinking. You'll also get ready for your junior year abroad and for an entire lifetime of thinking and living with global and historical perspectives.

Art history majors develop a keen eye plus excellent research, analytic, critical thinking, and communication skills—launching pads for many careers. Suffolk’s art history graduates have gone on to pursue advanced studies in art history, archive management, museum studies, and law. Others have found meaningful careers in a range of arts-related venues such as galleries and museums, auction houses, archives, and nonprofit cultural institutions.  

Suffolk University's biology major is especially collaborative and career-focused. Many of your classes will have fewer than 20 students, and you'll benefit from your professors' individual attention, thanks to our low faculty-to-student ratio.

Your experiences in our classrooms and labs will teach you scientific research methods and reporting; your experiences interning at Boston's premier hospitals and research facilities will deepen your knowledge and broaden your network.

At Suffolk, you can earn either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science in Biology, depending on your area of focus. You’ll begin with a well-rounded assortment of courses in both the lab and classroom focusing on evolution, genetics, ecology, bioethics, and physiology. If you have a specific professional interest, you might choose one of our three concentration options.

Concentration in Health Careers
This concentration prepares you for post-graduate programs in healthcare fields such as medicine, physician assistant, dentistry, veterinary medicine, nurse practitioner, physical therapy, pharmacy, and others. Information systems are at the center of all businesses, big and small, and the demand for information systems professionals is growing as companies use advanced technologies to manage operations around the world.

A major in information systems (IS) will prepare you for a career in systems analysis, operations management, information systems, and information technology. Courses in this major integrate active learning experiences that develop your analytical and decision-making abilities, with team-building skills that improve your ability to incorporate diverse viewpoints and contributions.

Philosophy
The Department of Philosophy offers a variety of courses in which you'll study the principles of critical thinking and argumentation that help us address these questions. Here you can take classes on topics from logic to the philosophy of art, from existentialism to environmental ethics, from feminism to the philosophy of race and gender. We also feature courses outside the western tradition, including Chinese philosophy, Buddhism, African philosophy, and Native American religion. In advanced seminars, you'll delve into the works of the great philosophers—Plato, Aristotle, Kant, Heidegger, Wittgenstein, and others.

Studio Art
The Bachelor of Art in Studio Art is specifically designed to help you prepare for a creative career in the visual arts. This major offers an immersive studio experience integrated with academic programming that focuses on arts-related career pathways.

Today’s artists utilize cross-disciplinary skills in order to develop successful careers. In the studio art major, you will engage in a comprehensive studio experience in the center of Boston, while you pursue career opportunities in related fields. Suffolk University is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).

Our core program philosophy combines an extensive exposure to materials and techniques with critiques and discussions that focus on developing each student’s unique artistic voice. Developing a responsive artistic practice and comprehensive career skills is essential for studio art students. Our academic partners at Suffolk provide career opportunities in fields closely associated with studio art. If you’re an engineer, computer programmer, or other high-tech professionals, or if you’re looking to balance out your business or financial experience with increased technical analytics skills, you can advance your career with the Suffolk Master’s of Science in Business Analytics program.

Suffolk’s comprehensive MSBA program uniquely balances business analytics and data management by teaching you business approaches to analytics and exactly how to manage and create projections with stored data sets. Master how to make high-level, data-driven determinations across a wide range of industries and how to communicate analytic information to non-technical business leaders and stakeholders, enabling them to make the best possible strategic decisions.

At Suffolk, you can take courses on strategic marketing, public relations, intercultural communication, global branding, gender communication, advertising, campaign management, and much more.

You'll learn to combine technology and theory to create effective messaging strategies for targeted audiences. You’ll follow a course of study endorsed by the American Chemical Society (ACS), which is highly respected in the field. You may also join Suffolk's award-winning ACS student chapter. Students involved in this co-curricular activity host speakers and enjoy participating in community service projects, for example volunteering at the nearby Museum of Science or the Boston Children’s Museum. Additionally, opportunities may be available to attend ACS regional and national meetings to learn about current research from experts in the field and even present your own research.
