Concentration in Actuarial Science
You’ll learn the theory and practical skills of mathematics, statistics, finance, and economics to pursue a variety of careers. Insurance and pension companies need actuaries to assess risk and develop better insurance plans. The Department of Philosophy offers a variety of courses in which you'll study the principles of critical thinking and argumentation that help us address these questions. Here you can take classes on topics from logic to the philosophy of art, from existentialism to environmental ethics, from feminism to the philosophy of race and gender. We also feature courses outside the western tradition, including Chinese philosophy, Buddhism, African philosophy, and Native American religion. In advanced seminars, you'll delve into the works of the great philosophers—Plato, Aristotle, Kant, Heidegger, Wittgenstein, and others.
