Economics
As an economics major at Suffolk University, you’ll be part of a vibrant community of students, scholars, and professors who synthesize data to solve social issues and substantiate policy decisions. You’ll be treated like a colleague—expect to work alongside professors on key research and policy issues; many of our scholars are frequently called on to provide policy advice and media commentary.

Our program provides a broad study of economics, from micro-and macroeconomics to statistics. With these skills, you can embark on a career in international relations, finance, government, or public policy.

As an economics major, you’ll learn to think logically to solve problems. You’ll also use observations and datasets to make important inferences. You’ll learn to state your ideas clearly and concisely in written assignments and oral presentations. Plus, you’ll discover how to analyze issues like crime, unemployment, inflation, taxes, sports, and voting behavior using economic tools and methods.

Sociology is a social science that studies our behavior as social beings. It covers everything from the analysis of short contacts between anonymous individuals to the study of global social processes. Often, sociologists are driven to understand and improve the lives of others.

Concentration in Crime and Justice
Criminal justice will provide you with a rigorous study of criminal justice systems and community responses to crime. Our interactive approach to learning focuses on fostering an understanding of crime and the principles of social scientific research. Throughout your studies, you will examine how illegal behavior is defined, with special attention to how social inequalities of race, class, gender, sexuality, and age shape what is seen as crime and what is seen as justice. The intersections of criminal justice and social justice are emphasized in our curriculum.

Art History
Art embodies the rich tapestry of human history and cultures across the world. Art history examines how images and monuments communicate and how they function in society: to teach and to move; to exalt and to incite.

As an art history major, you'll gain access to other cultures, other eras, and other ways of thinking. You'll also get ready for your junior year abroad and for an entire lifetime of thinking and living with global and historical perspectives.

Art history majors develop a keen eye plus excellent research, analytic, critical thinking, and communication skills—launching pads for many careers. Suffolk’s art history graduates have gone on to pursue advanced studies in art history, archive management, museum studies, and law. Others have found meaningful careers in a range of arts-related venues such as galleries and museums, auction houses, archives, and nonprofit cultural institutions.  

As a Business Economics major, you’ll refine the critical thinking, quantitative reasoning, and communication skills that employers want, allowing you to enter many different fields, such as banking, insurance, management, and government.

Biology
Suffolk University's biology major is especially collaborative and career-focused. Many of your classes will have fewer than 20 students, and you'll benefit from your professors' individual attention, thanks to our low faculty-to-student ratio.

Your experiences in our classrooms and labs will teach you scientific research methods and reporting; your experiences interning at Boston's premier hospitals and research facilities will deepen your knowledge and broaden your network.

At Suffolk, you can earn either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science in Biology, depending on your area of focus. You’ll begin with a well-rounded assortment of courses in both the lab and classroom focusing on evolution, genetics, ecology, bioethics, and physiology.

Whether you see yourself doing environmental research on rainforests, advocating for better air-quality policies, or working in government, you can explore these interests as an environmental studies major.

Concentration in Environmental Policy
You’ll learn to be an interdisciplinary problem-solver, drawing from the natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences. You’ll develop a comprehensive understanding of complex environmental issues. Focus your studies with a concentration in environmental policy or urban environmentalism. You might enhance your studies with service learning for an environmental organization, study abroad in Costa Rica or the Galapagos Islands, or a research project with classmates right here in Boston. You’ll take your science courses in our brand-new building that features state-of-the-art labs and research facilities.

With a major in management, you’ll learn how to work collaboratively and lead effectively in today’s competitive global marketplace.

Classes like the Management Senior Capstone Project Course let you test your business knowledge. You’ll spend a semester working through business challenges for an actual client. After weeks of intensive research, group meetings, and client interviews, you'll present your business recommendations to senior-level executives.

You’ll graduate an innovative, creative, and effective problem solver, who’s ready to manage many different types of organizations. And you’ll have the confidence to lead diverse teams that encompass different cultural, ethical, political, and behavioral perspectives.

Concentration in Leadership
The Leadership Concentration blends leadership theories with experiential learning. In the classroom, students learn, as a leader, ways to create a positive culture and an engaged workforce, create and lead changes, and lead diverse multi-cultural teams. Outside the classroom, students will participate in leadership experiences provided by the Leadership Journey Program which can be completed over multiple years. Our Leadership Concentration distinguishes itself from other programs in that the leadership theories taught in the classroom and the experiential learning with the Leadership Journey Program are highly integrated to maximize your leadership development.

Philosophy
The Department of Philosophy offers a variety of courses in which you'll study the principles of critical thinking and argumentation that help us address these questions. Here you can take classes on topics from logic to the philosophy of art, from existentialism to environmental ethics, from feminism to the philosophy of race and gender. We also feature courses outside the western tradition, including Chinese philosophy, Buddhism, African philosophy, and Native American religion. In advanced seminars, you'll delve into the works of the great philosophers—Plato, Aristotle, Kant, Heidegger, Wittgenstein, and others.

Financial Wealth Management
Suffolk’s Wealth Management major combines courses in finance, investment analysis, risk management, and retirement, estate, and financial planning to help you build strong analytical and decision-making skills. When you graduate, you will be prepared for a career in wealth management with a major firm, or to start your own wealth management business, helping individuals and companies plan for their financial futures. In addition, because the wealth management curriculum meets Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Board requirements, you will be eligible to take the CFP exam.
