Human Resource Management
A business can't succeed without the right employees, and at UAB, we can teach you how to build, manage, and grow a successful team. With a degree in human resource management, you can choose to work with businesses big and small and in many different industries.

In fact, there are very high standards for this field set by the Society for Human Resource Management, and we've designed our curriculum specifically to meet those standards. That's why, in addition to your core and elective coursework, we're going to provide you with the opportunity to participate in an internship, research project, or study-abroad trip. Best of all, you can complete your degree on campus or online.

Neuroscience
Neuroscience is the study of the body's nervous system—or in other words, how the brain shares information throughout the body. A degree in this program can help you prepare for a career in academic or government research, medicine, biotechnology, or most health-related fields.

Because this program is a partnership between the Department of Neurobiology in the School of Medicine and the Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences, you'll have a diverse course offering that includes biology, chemistry, math, physics, psychology, and neurobiology. Furthermore, this program satisfies most prerequisite course requirements for those looking to go on to medical school or to pursue another career in health care. Finally, you'll have an opportunity to earn a general science teaching certification through UABTeach and have a chance to collaborate and research with a faculty member on campus.

Art
Do you have a burning desire to express yourself through a variety of art media? Create art that transforms the world around you through a career in art direction, graphic design, museum curation, art conservation — or just about any other profession you can imagine.

From the moment you set foot on campus, we'll immerse you in the arts. Your coursework will teach you multiple disciplines of fine arts and design, and your access to UAB's Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts and the Birmingham Museum of Art will give you an intimate exposure to exhibits, displays, and special events. Choose an art studio concentration, and we'll encourage you to experiment with various styles. Concentrate in art history, and you'll focus on visual literacy and critical thinking.

Entrepreneurship
Many of the world’s leading companies began as student startups. Could one of your big ideas be next? At UAB, we can teach you how to turn your idea into a business, preparing you to be an entrepreneur who adapts to change, solves problems, and can thrive in all sorts of environments.

You see, before you have a big idea, you have to find the right problem to solve. Our curriculum is designed to show you how to fall in love with a problem so that you can find the right solution. Then we want you to take that solution and turn it into a viable business. To do this, you’ll take required courses like The Entrepreneurial Mindset, Entrepreneurial Strategy and Operations, and The Entrepreneurial Engagement Seminar, along with core business classes that cover the basics of marketing, finance, management, and more. You’ll even take Public Speaking to help you develop the skills to deliver that perfect pitch. We also want your education to be full of hands-on experience. Because how else will you really learn how to launch a business? You can pursue an internship with a local start-up, join a team of students exploring business ventures or collaborating on new ideas in one of UAB’s extracurricular programs, or complete a directed study in entrepreneurship.

Accounting is the language of business.  Communicating relevant financial accounting information and providing reliable financial reports is an essential component of successful business endeavors across the globe.  Because their extensive knowledge of business activities, accountants have the flexibility and knowledge for branding out into management and entrepreneurial roles.  UAB's Accounting Program offers a high-quality, practice-oriented educational experience designed for aspiring accountants seeking an innovative, technology driven learning environment.

A bachelor’s level education in accounting can lead to a wide variety of career choices in business, finance, insurance, investing, tax or auditing. It also paves the way to a master’s degree and future opportunities in financial management. Accounting graduates are hired by accounting firms, banks, private companies, non-profit organizations, insurance companies, government agencies, and corporations.

Sociology
Sociology is the scientific study of human behavior. If you want to understand social behavior in the real world, sociology is where you find the answers. From large-scale social processes occurring in the wider society beyond the individual to the dynamics of social interaction within small groups, sociology investigates the complexities of human social relationships. Regardless of your chosen career path, having a critical understanding of the social world will put you at the forefront of your career field!

Graduates of sociology have gone on to careers in administration and management (in government, private business, and nonprofit organizations), marketing, sales, politics, communications, social services (youth, senior, and poverty), corrections/investigation (local, state, and federal), and public relations, just to name a few. In addition, a degree in sociology can help prepare you for many professional degree programs when paired with one of the pre-professional programs at UAB. Sociology graduates have gone on to law, business, and medical school.

Community Health and Human Services
A healthy community doesn't just happen—it takes education, coaching, program development, and, most important, people who care to make a difference. At UAB, you'll gain a full understanding of the human body and prepare for a career helping others live healthy lives.

As you begin the program, we'll sit down with you to help you determine your career goals. Based on those goals, you'll choose a concentration of either community health or human services. In community health, you'll learn about policies, programs, anatomy, and nutrition for the well-being of both individuals and communities. If you choose human services, which is offered both online and on campus, we'll cover topics such as case management, public policy, and intervention.

In finance, we'll teach you how to address an age-old problem: How do you make more money and grow your business? With your BS, we'll train you to add value to all sorts of businesses, including multinational banks, investment firms, and other companies in every industry.

But before you can build that wealth, you need the educational foundation required to fuel your success. That's why our program begins with an exploration of financial planning, investing, valuation, risk management and more. After your core courses, we'll help you choose a track that best fits your career goals. Not to mention, our award-winning, student-managed investment fund, the UAB Green and Gold Fund, will give you real-world experience. Best of all, everything's available both on campus and online.

Students joining our Integrated Master Program (IMP) will benefit from a degree-seeking I-20 while still receiving the additional support provided by INTO UAB, from the day they apply through their first semester on campus. The UAB MBA program is decision-oriented, focusing on key aspects of modern administration, and it seeks to prepare graduates for leadership roles in business, industry, government, or social services. In order to deal effectively with increasingly complex problems of organizations, managers require training in sophisticated analytical techniques, an appreciation for the behavioral facets of management, and an ability to anticipate and adapt to changes in the organizational environment.
