We've developed a research-intensive curriculum, with unique hands-on experiences and mentorship from our faculty. To get prepared, you need a solid foundation in economics and decision-sciences, and that's exactly what our program will give you. Whether you're into data-driven analysis or the philosophy of decision science, we have a concentration that's perfect for you. Choose between mathematical economics, economic analysis and policy, or philosophy, politics, and economics. You will have the opportunity to make networking connections through organizations such as the Economics Club, International Business Association, and the Business Honors Program.

The Master of Science in Cyber Security (formerly known as Computer Forensics and Security Management) (MSSec) is an interdisciplinary program that prepares graduates for a professional career in the field of cyber security by developing in them the necessary skills crucial for success. The program also provides current practitioners the opportunity to obtain advanced-level training to facilitate career advancement. The program includes a set of core, required courses and the opportunity to select from a default option or two tracks of specialization.

Electrical Engineering
If electric currents, self-driving cars, and the latest smartphone apps get you amped, you should consider a degree in electrical and computer engineering. This degree can help you pursue a career in electric power, aerospace, computer engineering, consulting, defense, or the environment.

How do we do it? First, we'll hardwire you with a strong foundation of electrical engineering fundamentals. Your courses will cover topics such as analog and digital electronics, microprocessor applications, biomedical instrumentation, digital computer systems, software systems, electric utility power systems, digital control, industrial electronics, and machinery control. Then, through your capstone design experience, we'll plug you in with a team so you can prove your ability to design, develop, and test real solutions to engineering problems. You'll even be able to earn a teaching certification in mathematics through UABTeach and apply your STEM knowledge in the classroom.

Biotechnology is responsible for a lot—from beer, cheese, and bread to biofuels and many other modern breakthroughs. At UAB, we can teach you the fundamentals of biotechnology and how to develop and launch new products and technology.

As a matter of fact, one of our most important goals is to help you make your ideas a reality. To do this, we'll enroll you in classes that are divided into categories such as principles of biotechnology, applications in biotechnology, bench to commercialization, and professional skills. But that's just the beginning. We believe real-world experience is critical, and you're going to get plenty of it. There'll be guest speakers who have discovered innovative technologies and created new products. Plus, we're going to put you to work with actual biotech companies so you can help develop real solutions.

That's why our program begins with an exploration of financial planning, investing, valuation, risk management and more. After your core courses, we'll help you choose a track that best fits your career goals. Not to mention, our award-winning, student-managed investment fund, the UAB Green and Gold Fund, will give you real-world experience. Best of all, everything's available both on campus and online.

Music
With a music degree, you can learn more than how to make a beautiful, artistic sound—you can learn all about music technology, composition, theory, and more. With your passion and degree, you can pursue jobs in music production, teaching, or performing.

To start on the right note, you will need to determine your music career goal. In addition to your regular coursework, we'll encourage you to audition for various student performances. We have many ensembles and other performance opportunities for you to choose from. If you concentrate on music technology, we'll ask you to do an internship. If you focus on music education, we'll want you to complete the necessary requirements to teach K-12. Either way, your advisor will be there to help you every step of the way.

Materials engineering is a highly diverse field with applications connected to virtually all scientific disciplines. Therefore, the Master of Science program at UAB is a viable option for students whose background includes a baccalaureate degree from other engineering fields or from any number of physical science disciplines.

Community Health and Human Services
A healthy community doesn't just happen—it takes education, coaching, program development, and, most important, people who care to make a difference. At UAB, you'll gain a full understanding of the human body and prepare for a career helping others live healthy lives.

As you begin the program, we'll sit down with you to help you determine your career goals. Based on those goals, you'll choose a concentration of either community health or human services. In community health, you'll learn about policies, programs, anatomy, and nutrition for the well-being of both individuals and communities. If you choose human services, which is offered both online and on campus, we'll cover topics such as case management, public policy, and intervention.
