When you study social work, you learn how to help families and individuals through challenging times, including poverty, addiction, physical and mental illness, discrimination, loss, and much more. With an MSW, you could go on to work in schools, hospitals, clinics—all sorts of facilities.

To prepare you to help people take on these challenges, we've developed a program designed to make you as well-rounded as possible in the field of social work. First, you have 61 credit hours of approved coursework you need to finish in order to graduate. This will include research courses, practicums, and lectures on a wide range of subjects. We'll teach you all about important topics, such as social welfare policy, evidence-based interventions, implanting practices based on mental health diagnoses, and more. Best of all, we're going to give you real-world experience dealing with a diverse roster of clients, including families, individuals, and organizations. As part of this hands-on learning, you'll participate in clinical placements in agencies under the supervision of a master's-level social worker.

Immunology
Immunology is the study of the immune system, including the cells, organs, tissues, and the function the system plays in protecting humans against infectious diseases. It's the perfect foundation for a career in health care, biomedical research, or nearly anything that requires a white coat.

In fact, immunology is a collaborative field, and that's why your training will come from a broad spectrum of the scientific community. You'll take classes in biology, microbiology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics, taught through both our medical school and biology department. And, we’ll help you prepare for a continued education or career in fields such as biochemistry, cell biology, cancer biology, infectious diseases, neurobiology, endocrinology, and cardiology.

Medical sociology looks at how a person's culture, feelings, and other social factors play a role in their health-care choices. A medical sociology degree can help prepare you for a career in health care, research, government data analysis, or other industries.

To begin your education, you'll take courses in medical sociology, medical social theory, and research methods/statistics. You'll then move on to electives on special topics that interest you, such as Death and Dying, Biology and Society, and Minority Aging. We know, some of these topics can get a little heavy—but they're important. But first, you need to have a solid foundation of psychology theory in order to understand why people do what they do. That's why we begin your education with courses such as Developmental Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, and Brain, Mind, and Behavior. Then we'll take your education outside the classroom by giving you the chance to complete a research project or community service.
