Students joining our Integrated Master Program (IMP) will benefit from a degree-seeking I-20 while still receiving the additional support provided by INTO UAB, from the day they apply through their first semester on campus. A master of science in civil engineering equips engineers to advance in various industrial or academic career fields that emphasize high-level and collaborative research. An M.S. in civil engineering can serve as a step toward a Ph.D. in engineering, or it can provide the experience and credentials needed to increase competiveness in the job market. The program can be completed in as few as two years, though the typical student takes two courses per term for five semesters.

Specializations
The department offers specialization programs in the fields of:

• Structural engineering/structural mechanics,
• Environmental engineering,
• Transportation engineering, and
• Construction engineering management.

The MSBME is a researched-based degree that prepares you for entry into the doctoral program, biomedical industry, or professional schools. The program's primary research areas are:

• Biomedical imaging,
• Biomedical implants and devices,
• Cardiac electrophysiology,
• Multiscale computational modeling,
• Tissue engineering, and
• Regenerative medicine.

Other research opportunities are available through our ongoing collaborations with the UAB Medical and Dental schools.

International Studies
International studies will give you an in-depth knowledge of what's happening around the world, letting you focus your courses on specific areas that interest you. We'll help prepare you for a career in a variety of fields, including international relations, business, journalism, economics, politics, diplomacy, and much more.

The number one asset you'll need for success is a keen understanding of today's world economy. That's why we offer you the option to focus on a variety of areas, including Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and South America. Your curriculum will cover such topics as economics, socio-political awareness, and cultural literacy. We'll help you line up a study-abroad opportunity, participation in the Model Arab League, an internship with an international business, or another experience.

Psychology is the science of mind and behavior. With a thorough knowledge of psychology, you can offer great value in a wide variety of fields, including business, advertising, politics, law, education, and mental health counseling.

But first, you need to have a solid foundation of psychology theory in order to understand why people do what they do. That's why we begin your education with courses such as Developmental Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, and Brain, Mind, and Behavior. Then we'll take your education outside the classroom by giving you the chance to complete a research project or community service. Best of all, you could get the opportunity to gain real-world experience by participating in professional shadowing at a nearby treatment facility.

Numerous of our Master of Public Administration graduates have gone on to serve in government—one was a major party candidate in Alabama's 2018 governor race. Complete the program, and you could be next.

Whether you have an interest in a career in the public sector or want to work in nonprofits, we can give you a foundation for success. You can choose from our thesis or non-thesis track. Best of all, we've designed this program to fit around your schedule. Many classes are offered in the evening, while others are a mix of online and face-to-face instruction.

The MPH with a concentration in Health Behavior addresses the behavioral, social, and cultural factors related to individual and population health and health disparities. Our program emphasizes the importance of community-based participatory research and the application of findings through a variety of behavioral and social science health promotion strategies. Classes are designed to be engaging, interactive, and relevant to current health behavior issues.

Our students have the opportunity to enhance their skills in:

• Applying social and behavioral science theories to public health problems;
• Developing evidence-based health promotion and disease prevention programs;
• Applying principles of evaluating health promotion and disease prevention programs;
• Demonstrating an understanding of the ethical standards of public health research and practice; and
• Evaluating the literature concerning individual and social influences on health behavior.

Sociology is the scientific study of human behavior. If you want to understand social behavior in the real world, sociology is where you find the answers. From large-scale social processes occurring in the wider society beyond the individual to the dynamics of social interaction within small groups, sociology investigates the complexities of human social relationships. Regardless of your chosen career path, having a critical understanding of the social world will put you at the forefront of your career field!

Graduates of sociology have gone on to careers in administration and management (in government, private business, and nonprofit organizations), marketing, sales, politics, communications, social services (youth, senior, and poverty), corrections/investigation (local, state, and federal), and public relations, just to name a few. In addition, a degree in sociology can help prepare you for many professional degree programs when paired with one of the pre-professional programs at UAB. Sociology graduates have gone on to law, business, and medical school.

Community Health and Human Services
A healthy community doesn't just happen—it takes education, coaching, program development, and, most important, people who care to make a difference. At UAB, you'll gain a full understanding of the human body and prepare for a career helping others live healthy lives.

As you begin the program, we'll sit down with you to help you determine your career goals. Based on those goals, you'll choose a concentration of either community health or human services. In community health, you'll learn about policies, programs, anatomy, and nutrition for the well-being of both individuals and communities. If you choose human services, which is offered both online and on campus, we'll cover topics such as case management, public policy, and intervention.

Finance
In finance, we'll teach you how to address an age-old problem: How do you make more money and grow your business? With your BS, we'll train you to add value to all sorts of businesses, including multinational banks, investment firms, and other companies in every industry.

But before you can build that wealth, you need the educational foundation required to fuel your success. That's why our program begins with an exploration of financial planning, investing, valuation, risk management and more. After your core courses, we'll help you choose a track that best fits your career goals. Not to mention, our award-winning, student-managed investment fund, the UAB Green and Gold Fund, will give you real-world experience. Best of all, everything's available both on campus and online.

Accounting is the language of business.  Communicating relevant financial accounting information and providing reliable financial reports is an essential component of successful business endeavors across the globe.  Because their extensive knowledge of business activities, accountants have the flexibility and knowledge for branding out into management and entrepreneurial roles.  UAB's Accounting Program offers a high-quality, practice-oriented educational experience designed for aspiring accountants seeking an innovative, technology driven learning environment.

A bachelor’s level education in accounting can lead to a wide variety of career choices in business, finance, insurance, investing, tax or auditing. It also paves the way to a master’s degree and future opportunities in financial management. Accounting graduates are hired by accounting firms, banks, private companies, non-profit organizations, insurance companies, government agencies, and corporations.
