Students who successfully complete a Graduate Pathway program in cyber security are assured progression to a UAB graduate degree program upon submission of additional required application materials. Cyber Security
The Master of Science in Cyber-Security (MSSec) program is an interdisciplinary professional/practice graduate program intended to develop skills — familiarity with industry practices, innovative methods, critical thinking, and problem solving — crucial for competitiveness and success in the areas of computer forensics, information security management, and forensic accounting.
This program is intended to increase the pipeline of prospective, high-quality, entry- and advanced level employees involved with protecting physical and virtual systems — systems that are vital to the US and whose incapacitation or destruction would have a debilitating effect on national security and the nation’s economic system. The program also provides current employees in the public and private sectors an opportunity to obtain advanced-level, high-quality training in the core areas of computer forensics, information security management, and forensic accounting, to facilitate career advancement.

MS Cyber-Security involves faculty from the Departments of Computer Science and Criminal Justice (College of Arts and Sciences) and the Departments of Management, Information Systems Quantitative Methods, and Accounting & Finance (School of Business).

At UAB, we've never been more focused on peace, justice, human rights, and ecology than we are right now. It's why we established the UAB Institute for Human Rights. It's also why, in 2017, we established this program. It's a two-year master's program with coursework in social and cultural anthropology, archaeology, and biological anthropology. As a student, you'll work with your advisor to choose one of two plans necessary to complete your degree. With Plan 1 (thesis), you'll take five elective courses (15 semester hours) and enroll in six semester hours of thesis credit. If your goal is to earn your PhD, this is the better option for you. With Plan 2 (non-thesis option), you'll take seven elective courses (21 semester hours), and we'll require you to pass a comprehensive final exam before graduation.

Mathematics
Mathematics is the study of quantity, structure, space, and change. By understanding this universal language, you'll have problem-solving abilities that are useful in business, engineering, medicine, technology, and a seemingly infinite number of other fields.

In fact, many mathematics grads go on to work at NASA, Bell Labs, and even the National Security Agency. But to get there, you have to start here, with subjects like differential equations, advanced calculus, and mathematical modeling. If you're looking to further your education, consider our mathematics accelerated master's program, where you can complete both your bachelor's and master's in only four years. Atoms, particles, quarks—if your passion is to learn about everything that makes up everything, a master's in chemistry is perfect for you. At UAB, we can prepare you to make the innovative changes our 21st century world demands in the fields of healthcare, forensics, research — just about everything.

In fact, since we're tied to the UAB School of Medicine, you could go on to work in drug discovery, biophysical chemistry, nano materials, organic polymers, inorganic materials, education, and so much more. Because we believe research is critical to making you an expert in each of those fields, we want you to get into our lab immediately. That's why we're going to partner you with a research mentor who will give you the attention you need to get off to a strong start. As you progress, you'll be required to pick between two plans of study. In one, you'll need to take 30 hours of graduate coursework. In the other, you must complete and defend a thesis. Finally, with access to world-class faculty and facilities, we're going to make sure you have everything you need to get the best education possible. Our department is home to the Central Alabama High Field NMR Facility, Center for Chemical Synthesis and Analysis, Mass Spectrometry Lab, X-Ray Crystallography Lab, Biophysical Spectroscopy Lab, and Bioenergetics Lab.

Biotechnology is responsible for a lot—from beer, cheese, and bread to biofuels and many other modern breakthroughs. At UAB, we can teach you the fundamentals of biotechnology and how to develop and launch new products and technology.

As a matter of fact, one of our most important goals is to help you make your ideas a reality. To do this, we'll enroll you in classes that are divided into categories such as principles of biotechnology, applications in biotechnology, bench to commercialization, and professional skills. But that's just the beginning. We believe real-world experience is critical, and you're going to get plenty of it. There'll be guest speakers who have discovered innovative technologies and created new products. Plus, we're going to put you to work with actual biotech companies so you can help develop real solutions.

A master of science in civil engineering equips engineers to advance in various industrial or academic career fields that emphasize high-level and collaborative research. An M.S. in civil engineering can serve as a step toward a Ph.D. in engineering, or it can provide the experience and credentials needed to increase competiveness in the job market. Anthropology—the study of humankind, past and present—has the widest scope of all the social sciences. With an understanding of other people and their cultures, you'll be prepared for a career in a variety of fields, including international business, law, teaching, forensic science, language interpretation, environmental conservation, or even museum curation.

To enhance your degree, we offer the opportunity to complete an honors program, study abroad, or design your own personalized program.
