Today’s business environment requires graduates who can effectively evaluate and make decisions, lead employees and manage resources. Management is ideal for people who like big picture thinking, can understand how processes work, have a passion for problem-solving and who can multi-task effectively to help create value for the organization. Biology
Biology is the study of all living things—from molecules to entire ecosystems. And when you study all those things, you can do almost anything. Our alumni work in genetics, microbiology, spinal cord injury, brain development, and education, as well as in wildlife and nature conservation.

In our biology program, you'll have an amazing experience. For one, you'll be taught by our world-renowned faculty and scientists in state-of-the-art laboratories. You can even do fieldwork at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab on Alabama's Gulf Coast or in the Bahamas, Costa Rica, the Galápagos Islands, or Antarctica. Once you've completed your program track—Integrated Biology, Marine Science, or Molecular Biology—you'll have the prerequisites you need for medical, dental, optometry, or pharmacy school.  You can even get certified to teach biology or general science through the UABTeach program.

INTO UAB's Graduate Pathway program in Multidisciplinary Biomedical Sciences will prepare you to enter the second year of a master’s degree program at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. Upon successful completion of the Graduate Pathway program and meeting university requirements for graduate admission, you may enter your next semester of graduate study at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. Multidisciplinary Biomedical Sciences
You have an interest in biomedical health sciences, but you want to leave your options open for your future. With this degree, you will have an opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills that can help you launch a career in research science, scientific policy, science communication, education, or biomedical sales—or to gain more experience in preparation for professional schools.

You have plenty of choices in the program. Choose the thesis or non-thesis options, which require different amounts of laboratory and research training. Take elective courses to explore different biomedical science disciplines. Add a concentration designation to your transcript. You can even enroll in professional development courses in teaching, writing, scientific communication, and other topics. No matter what you choose, you can benefit from a core curriculum that includes courses in Molecular and Cell Biology, Biochemistry, General Human Physiology, Critical Thinking and Scientific Integrity, and Biostatistics.

Sociology
Sociology is the scientific study of human behavior. If you want to understand social behavior in the real world, sociology is where you find the answers. From large-scale social processes occurring in the wider society beyond the individual to the dynamics of social interaction within small groups, sociology investigates the complexities of human social relationships. Regardless of your chosen career path, having a critical understanding of the social world will put you at the forefront of your career field!

Graduates of sociology have gone on to careers in administration and management (in government, private business, and nonprofit organizations), marketing, sales, politics, communications, social services (youth, senior, and poverty), corrections/investigation (local, state, and federal), and public relations, just to name a few. In addition, a degree in sociology can help prepare you for many professional degree programs when paired with one of the pre-professional programs at UAB. Sociology graduates have gone on to law, business, and medical school.

Social Work
If you want to help people, consider a social work degree, and learn how to make a difference in some of the world's most difficult challenges—poverty, addiction, physical and mental illness, discrimination, and loss. In the process, find out how to turn social work into a career.

To begin with, we'll teach you about values, welfare, human behavior, social environments, and research. You'll get to explore topics like social and economic justice for populations at risk. Then you'll complete a practicum, giving you real-world experience working at an actual social service agency. Because, when you graduate, we want you to have everything you need to start a career in social work. That means you can do more than make a living for yourself—you can change lives. You can make a difference.

You see, before you have a big idea, you have to find the right problem to solve. Our curriculum is designed to show you how to fall in love with a problem so that you can find the right solution. Then we want you to take that solution and turn it into a viable business. To do this, you’ll take required courses like The Entrepreneurial Mindset, Entrepreneurial Strategy and Operations, and The Entrepreneurial Engagement Seminar, along with core business classes that cover the basics of marketing, finance, management, and more. You’ll even take Public Speaking to help you develop the skills to deliver that perfect pitch. We also want your education to be full of hands-on experience. Because how else will you really learn how to launch a business? You can pursue an internship with a local start-up, join a team of students exploring business ventures or collaborating on new ideas in one of UAB’s extracurricular programs, or complete a directed study in entrepreneurship.

Theatre
A theatre degree can give you performing arts experience as an actor, designer, stage manager, director, scriptwriter, costume and set designer, and much more. This degree could lead to a career in Hollywood, New York, or just about anywhere.

But before you see your name in lights, we first have to hone your talents and teach you about topics such as scenery, lighting, makeup, and even theatre history. But don't worry, we'll want to get you on the stage often during your education, so you'll have plenty of opportunities to put your new skills to use. In fact, with our state-of-the-art theatres and scene design shop, you'll have opportunities to participate in or create professional-level productions.

Students joining our Integrated Master Program (IMP) will benefit from a degree-seeking I-20 while still receiving the additional support provided by INTO UAB, from the day they apply through their first semester on campus. Pre-arrival questions get answered. Travel fears get addressed. Help with everything from tutoring to career guidance—at the ready for IMP students.

Biotechnology is responsible for a lot—from beer, cheese, and bread to biofuels and many other modern breakthroughs. At UAB, we can teach you the fundamentals of biotechnology and how to develop and launch new products and technology.

As a matter of fact, one of our most important goals is to help you make your ideas a reality. To do this, we'll enroll you in classes that are divided into categories such as principles of biotechnology, applications in biotechnology, bench to commercialization, and professional skills. But that's just the beginning. We believe real-world experience is critical, and you're going to get plenty of it. There'll be guest speakers who have discovered innovative technologies and created new products. Plus, we're going to put you to work with actual biotech companies so you can help develop real solutions.

Economics
If you study economics, you'll find there's actually a science behind how and why money gets spent in a society. At UAB, we'll get you ready for a career in research, consulting, or other industry.

To get prepared, you need a solid foundation in economics and decision-sciences, and that's exactly what our program will give you. Whether you're into data-driven analysis or the philosophy of decision science, we have a concentration that's perfect for you. Choose between mathematical economics, economic analysis and policy, or philosophy, politics, and economics. You will have the opportunity to make networking connections through organizations such as the Economics Club, International Business Association, and the Business Honors Program.

Anthropology
Anthropology—the study of humankind, past and present—has the widest scope of all the social sciences. With an understanding of other people and their cultures, you'll be prepared for a career in a variety of fields, including international business, law, teaching, forensic science, language interpretation, environmental conservation, or even museum curation.

To enhance your degree, we offer the opportunity to complete an honors program, study abroad, or design your own personalized program. You'll have access to a student research room and an impressive collection of artifacts.
