Biomedical Sciences
The Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences (BMD) program prepares you for health-related graduate and professional study or for entry into one of the fastest growing occupational sectors.
Are you looking for a flexible and solid undergraduate degree that will prepare you for today’s fastest growing occupational sector? Then BMD is for you.
You will tailor your degree to fit your academic and career goals. The program, which includes coursework in physiology, pharmacology, clinical biochemistry, medical microbiology and immunology, plus the pathological basis of disease, includes six elective courses that you choose based on your individual health-related educational track.

Political Science
In political science, we teach you how American government and politics compare with the rest of the world. This major is an excellent option if your career interests are either political campaigns, nonprofit advocacy, political research, foreign diplomacy, law, journalism, or education.

To get you started, we'll give you an overview of American government, comparative politics, international relations, political theory, and data and policy. Then, your advisor will help you choose between a line of study that's focused on the United States and one that's more internationally centered. At that point, you'll be able to tailor your curriculum with your goals in mind, search for appropriate internships, and even potentially get one-on-one faculty mentoring through the honors program.

Bachelor of General Studies
The Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) allows you to combine your academic interests, contribute to society in meaningful ways, and find full-time employment or compete for promotion. This major is designed for flexibility to help you achieve your goals. It emphasizes adaptability, thinking, writing, and communication skills.

The BGS helps prepare you mainly for support careers in various fields, including government, health care, real estate, general social services and the service-producing sector, law, retail, and private industry.

In order to succeed, every business has to have an accountant like you keeping track of its resources. Our faculty can give you the financial training you need for a career at a public accounting firm, company, governmental agency, not-for-profit organization, or elsewhere.

In fact, we're among an elite group of universities worldwide to achieve the seal of excellence in both business and accounting from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. In addition to your core classes, you can choose concentration classes in forensic accounting or information technology. Entrepreneurship
Many of the world’s leading companies began as student startups. Could one of your big ideas be next? At UAB, we can teach you how to turn your idea into a business, preparing you to be an entrepreneur who adapts to change, solves problems, and can thrive in all sorts of environments.

You see, before you have a big idea, you have to find the right problem to solve. Our curriculum is designed to show you how to fall in love with a problem so that you can find the right solution. Then we want you to take that solution and turn it into a viable business. To do this, you’ll take required courses like The Entrepreneurial Mindset, Entrepreneurial Strategy and Operations, and The Entrepreneurial Engagement Seminar, along with core business classes that cover the basics of marketing, finance, management, and more. You’ll even take Public Speaking to help you develop the skills to deliver that perfect pitch. We also want your education to be full of hands-on experience. Because how else will you really learn how to launch a business? You can pursue an internship with a local start-up, join a team of students exploring business ventures or collaborating on new ideas in one of UAB’s extracurricular programs, or complete a directed study in entrepreneurship.

For health care to be effective, patients must receive care in a quality and safe environment. Providers rely on people like you to steer them toward a quality-driven, efficiency-minded, and high-reliability environment. You can learn the skills you need as an administrator, physician, nurse, patient safety officer, or quality manager.

In fact, we specifically designed our program specifically so you'll get critical applied instruction that you can integrate with the daily tasks of your profession. Your coursework will focus on leadership skills, data system design, patient safety, policy, and more. You'll also take an elective to round out your curriculum. Your choices here will run the gamut from Six Sigma seminars to lectures on health insurance and cost-effectiveness analysis. Best of all, every class is available online so you can fit it into your already busy schedule. To get prepared, you need a solid foundation in economics and decision-sciences, and that's exactly what our program will give you. Whether you're into data-driven analysis or the philosophy of decision science, we have a concentration that's perfect for you. Choose between mathematical economics, economic analysis and policy, or philosophy, politics, and economics. You will have the opportunity to make networking connections through organizations such as the Economics Club, International Business Association, and the Business Honors Program.

Digital Forensics
As a digital forensics professional, you'll examine digital evidence and protect computer systems from hackers and malware. With threats continuing to mount, digital forensics experts are in high demand at companies that need cybersecurity. Careers are available in computer science, criminal justice, information systems, information technology, or law.

But catching cyber criminals means you have to think like them—and then outsmart them. So we're going to teach you the programming knowledge and tools you need to do just that. We're also going to teach you about legal evidence-gathering, investigation processes, and more. Best of all, because our criminal justice program is the only one in Alabama that requires an internship, you'll have real-world experience on your resume when it's time to find a job.

Study computer science, and you'll learn how to analyze a problem and find a computational solution. A BS in Computer Science can help you prepare for a career in software development, programming, research, network administration, web development, and much more.

With 48 hours of computer science courses, the Bachelor of Science (BS) offers students a more technical route than the Bachelor of Arts (BA), which requires 36 hours. Your coursework will include math and natural sciences, and core courses such as Discrete Structures, Automated and Formal Languages, and Programming Languages will give you a foundation in designing, building, and understanding computer-based systems, processes, and programs. Honors students may wish to research, write, and publish a formal scientific report or give an oral presentation. You'll even be able to earn a teaching certification in mathematics through UABTeach and apply your STEM knowledge in the classroom.
